Take mother-in-laws upgrade?

So here is the situation, I am not eligible for an upgrade for a while and I want an iPhone because my Droid Inc. sucks **bleep**, So last night my mother in law says she is due for an upgrade and if I can, I can use it because she is not getting a new phone, she likes hers and does not want a phone that adds $30 a month in data, SO, Can i

1. Go to verizon with her, both our old phones in hand

2. She buys the iphone and activates it on her line, which now deactivates her old phone and they add $30 a month of course because its a smartphone

3. Now that it is full activated and working, Verizon puts her number back to the old phone, cancels the $30 a month and the iPhone is now deactivated which means she can hand it to me to take over my droid...

Will that work?

I think it can be done, but she is going to be locked into a new two year contract and you are still in your two year contract.

The way you described is exactly how you would have to do it.

if you two are not on the same plan, then i "think" this voids the verizon warranty on the iphone as soon as you switch the lines. does anyone know? the way i understand it, if you switch lines on the same plan, the warranty stays in tact....but if you switch to a different line on a different plan (like if i had one and sold it to you) it voids it.

Well...based on the info HERE the original end-user/purchaser is covered. It doesn't say if it covers a second party. You can always check with Apple to be sure.

I recently did this. I added my niece on to my verizon account. She really loved my Droid X and I really wanted an iphone. So I got her an iphone at the discounted price. We activated with her new number. Then Verizon changed the iphone to my number and the droid x to my nieces new number. Now I have an iphone and i could not be happier.

thank you everyone for your help, Everything went perfect, we purchased it all at the store, then when I got home we logged into our accounts and "activated" the old device back to her account and I "activated" the iphone on mine. Finally got it back, I LOVE this phone, Thanks again.

No my upgrade is not touched and I am patiently waiting for the Iphone 4s/5, whatever they will call it
