Are you sorry you switched?

I am eligible for a full upgrade this Weds. :smileyhappy: I am wondering from those of you who switched from the AT&T iphone to the Verizon iphone - are you happy with your new phone? Is there anything you could do on your old phone that you cannot do on the V phone? I had planned on going with a Droid X but now am leaning towards the iphone. I will keep my next phone until I can upgrade again so I want to make sure I'm happy with it! I am upgrading from a BB Curve 8330, with the stupid little trackball that loves to stick!! :smileymad: I can't wait!!!!!

I didn't switch from att, but I did come from a blackberry curve 8330 also. So far, the only thing I really miss is the message indicator light. As for those that switched from att, I can't speak for them.

I have been a Verizon customer for years. I did switch from a BlackBerry Tour to the iPhone. I like the phone very much, however I am a little sorry (I may end up switching back). I never (rarely) had a connection problem with my BlackBerry. I received the iPhone on Friday 2/25, and I have had no data connection (other than my Wi-Fi) since I had the phone. Verizon can't seem to figure out what the problem is and it doesn't seem to be much of a concern to them. I use my phone for personal and business and really can't afford to go much longer without a data connection.

I have tried with data roaming turned on and turned off. It has made no difference either way. My display shows that I have 3G service with 5 bars, but when I try to access anytging requiring data, I get a couple of messages - "Could not activate cellular data network", "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet". Other apps I try to use (Pandora and Stitcher) give error messages telling me to check to make sure I am connected to the internet.

I'm sure that you have heard about the fact that you can't do voice and data at the same time on a VZW iPhone, but can on an AT&T iPhone. There is also the difference that you can't convert the signal bars to actual db numbers for signal strength on a VZW iPhone.

You do have the ability to make a VZW iPhone a personal hotspot. AT&T is waiting on that now. These are the only differences that I can think of.

Do you realize how many thousands of people are using the Verizon iPhone and have NO problems accessing the data network?

You don't mention whether you called customer support or went to the store, but of course, they are concerned that you have access to the data network. It sounds like your phone might need to be replaced. I wold be calling tech support or haranging the store where you bought the phone. If you bought it online and haven't been sucessful with tech support, call back and get someone else working on your issue. If you are doing this, don't let up. I've never had to make more than one phone call on the few tech support issues I've had (not with iPhones).

If you can't access the data network and your settings are correct then get your phone looked at. It might need to be replaced.

I think it all depends on where you use the iPhone.

So, if you are mainly in areas with good, not overloaded, AT&T signal, the AT&T phone seems to be 1.5-2 times as fast in data transfer (although that doesn't directly turn in to a user experience 1.5-2 times as fast). If you are often in other areas, Verizon appears to have much more consistent coverage, so you can make phone calls and use data more reliably.

As for simultaneous voice and data: seems to be an issue for a fairly small set of people, but it is all subsumed by the above, if you don't have good AT&T coverage, you won't be able to use this feature very well anyway.

and fyi....you CAN do simultaneous voice and data IF you are connected to a wifi network....which, these days, is in a lot of areas.

I should have clarified that I was speaking of using voice and data simultaneously on the 3G network.

My comments weren't complaints, but just an answer to the OP's question about differences.

Thanks everybody for the feedback!!

I am aware of not being able to use the phone & data at the same time but I can't currently do that anyway. Yes, it would be a nice feature & maybe they'll make it available in the future. I happen to be in an area where AT&T has poor service & left them several years ago for this reason. But sounds like overall most people are happy with their iphones so again, thanks for your replies!! :smileyhappy:

The iPhone that I received on February 7 has been flawless--no issues at all. I am a bit biased, as I am an Apple person--use them at school and at home.

This morning I contacted Tech Support again. Again, I was told that they were working on the issue and would contact me when they had a resolution. After I hung up with Tech Support, I called customer service. I explained what I had been going through and asked if it was possible the problem was with the handset and not the data/network.

The customer service rep agreed that a handset problem was possible. I told the rep that I was unhappy with the phone and I wanted a replacement. He said " I see you do have insurance". I then made it crystal clear that this was not an insurance issue, it was a defective equipment issue.

Bottom line, I ended up going to a local Corporate store and talking to a Rep there. After playing around with the unit for no more than 5 minutes, the Rep agreed that the handset was no good. Fifteen minutes later I walked out with a new (able to connect to the internet) unit.

I am a happy camper and loving my iPhone now.
