GPS cannot find my location

I have had my Droid for about 2 months now. Up to today the GPS and Map worked just find. Today, the GPS cannot find my location, no matter if I am in my house, in my car, or standing outdoors in the open. After trying for 15 - 20 minutes it finally tells me I am south of I-40, and west of Memphis Tennessee. Unfortunately, I happen to be in Montgomery County, TX, about 25 miles north of downtown Houston. I've turned the Droid off and back on, but that did not fix the problem. i turned the Droid off, removed the battery, replaced it, and turned the Droid back on, but that did not fix the problem. Any idea what is going on?

On your droid, go to settings, then location and settings and make sure there is a checkmark in "Use GPS satellites". Also, make sure GPS is turned on. I hope this helps. :smileyhappy:

I am having the same problem! I also did the go outside thing, although it worked fine from inside the house just a day ago.

Yes, I did check that GPS was still checked and there is a little icon showing green rays coming out of a dish to confirm that GPS is on.

The only thing I can think of is that Google Maps just did an update. Can this be causing the problem?

I did have a problem in Maryland a couple of days ago before the update (my car GPS worked fine), but it found me at home.

I'd like to hear if others are having this problem, particularly after the map update.

try activating the "use wireless networks" too. it's located just above the GPS activation.

if you updated within the last couple days, i believe the new update is force closing google maps. hopefully they fix it asap.

Thanks, but I purposely leave off the "use wireless networks" option, so that did not cause the change. Not only does it use a lot of battery power, but it caused all kinds of confusion for the map program when it was on originally. It is not reliable for positioning.

I would like the GPS to work again!

Issue on my phone is that it thinks I'm in Stamford, CT when I'm in NJ. WTH!!!!

Does anybody that is having issues with the GPS happen to have Weatherbug installed?

I was having issues with my GPS, and found on another forum issues with Weatherbug. I uninstalled it, power cycled the phone and bingo, GPS worked fine.

UPDATE

This morning I had a notification on the phone that there was an update - didn't say what for. I clicked on it.

It did something for a couple of minutes, then no notification that an installation had occurred, but the update notice was gone.

Went to check my maps - GPS was now working! It even had the little directional arrow. Pinch now worked for zoom in and zoom out.

This was NOT the big 2.1 update everyone is talking about - the phone still says 2.01, but that I am "up to date".

I had Weatherbug installed and had the same problem with Google Maps. I followed your advice and un-installed Weatherbug, and now Google Maps works. I didn't have to power down my phone for it to work, though.

I've done all the above for my Droid Eris. Off on, in out, etc. GPS on maps can't find me. The last thing I installed was Google Sky. You think that could be it?
