Motorola Xoom price ?

I just heard Best Buy will be selling the Motorola Xoom for $799... so lets see that's &799 +tax $67 + $20 for months service

+ $35 activation brings us to ........ $921 at least !!! I will not be buying one ! NOT even going to look at one . maybe time to switch carriers, walked by the Ipad in best buy waiting for the Xoom but now will reconsider the Ipad but probably not with verizon.

can't you just use it via wifi for no monthly fee? also...verizon has nothing to do with that price. that's on motorola.

The way the best buy ad read, you're required to have at least 1 month of data in order to make wifi active but there's a couple typos so people are hoping it's just a shop job.

It'll probably be like the Galaxy Tab, they aren't willing to sell a device without activating it on 3g service even though you can cancel immediately after activation and there's no technical limitation preventing them from doing so except that corporate set up the system so that they can't sell an unactivated tablet. So yeah, $800 + activation + 1 month service + tax is the minimum you can pay to get a Xoom. Personally? I don't get the whole tablet thing, I'll keep using my smartphone+desktop computing combo.

i don't get the tablet thing either. i (naievely) told people that the ipad would finally be an apple flop. lol....i've never been so wrong. i just thought "it's a bigger iphone, withought the phone?" but what do i know. i think they would be great for browsing and video calls, but not for the price. $700 for 32 gigs for an ipad and $800 for the xoom???? i thought about waiting around until this summer to check out some better android tablets (they were pretty poor this past christmas) and then went and got one of the holiday sale laptops instead. $500 for quad core, 500 gb, built in cam, hdmi out, etc, etc. until the prices come way down, i'll use my phone or a laptop. i don't need anything in between for nearly a grand$!!!! if i really wanted one now, i would get a nook color and just flash it. $250 and you've got a pretty nice android tablet. it wouldn't have all the bells and whistles, but you could access all of the apps and browse on it for a fraction of the price of a dell or xoom.

With as many typo's as this ad has in it, I believe it is better to wait until Verizon has released official pricing and info before everyone starts flipping out.

The ad was likely placed to see the general publics reaction before deciding on a final price point. Now that they have seen that very few people will buy one (I am getting one no matter what) They will likely bring the price down to probably $599-$699.

yeah, I think it needs to be ~$650ish and either ditch the mandatory 1 month of data or introduce a wifi only model if Motorola wants to compete with the base level iPad. At $799 for the Xoom, most people are just going to go straight to the iPad 2 and not even give the Xoom a second thought regardless of the features.

This is Motorola and Google's Prize possession. They have been working on this for over a year now. They have a lot riding on this device and will not allow it to be a flop. Especially before it is even released. The ad is fake.

Was originally planning on picking up two of these, one for me and one for the wife. Heard about the $799 price, now I doubt I will even get one. Sounds like $799 might be without a contract though; engadget reported the $1199 on Best Buy was confirmed as a placeholder price.

Bottom line: price w/ contract needs to be $300-500 to be competetive, and $1200 will likely kill sales.

Verizon might want to consider getting out in front of this and posting some good information on their site. Sad that they don't even have a Xoom page yet.

it really needs to be under $700 without any contract or activation requirement. apple products are always priced higher than the comparable stuff...and in all honesty, this is just an android version of an ipad. if it's going to compete, then i think $600-$700 with no activation would do it. but if they REALLY wanted to get their foot in the door, $500-$600 would at least get people who are currently looking at ipads, to give the xoom a good look too. i don't really want an ipad or a xoom at the current prices, but i'd be tempted for $500. i know a few people that just flashed a color nook and are very happy with that. no cam or 2.2 (they weren't sure if they could load 2.2)....but for a couple hundred bucks, they ended up with a decent quality android tablet.

I have seen a video of the nook color running Honeycomb. I would be to afraid of breaking it to even attempt such a feat.

The prices are out. Saw them on Engadget. 799 for the 3G version, 600 for the wifi version. :smileysad:

That's about on par with the wifi only iPad 32GB. Hopefully the influx of competition will drive down prices.

I'm just hoping that the wifi version is available at the same time as the 3g version.

If I need 3g I have a phone that does a reasonably good job of providing that. Why would I want to pay an additional 200 for something I already have?

i think $600 is fair...for now. in a year or so, when there are a dozen decent tablets out, i bet they'll be much cheaper. especially since there are garbage android tablets out there for under $200 and you can flash a color nook.
