iPhone Is Not 4G

I was lied to by Verizon. The store salesperson assured me that the iPhone 4 was 4g capable and I would be able to talk and use the internet at the same time. NOT TRUE. It is only 4g capable in a few select areas and mine is not one of them. It's a total waste of money to buy a 4g phone like the iPhone 4g in an area that is not supported by 4g. Verizon needs to educate their employees.

The 4 after the iPhone does NOT mean 4g. The 4 is simply the version. The rep you worked with obviously did not know a thing about Verizon or the iPhone. It is known that you cannot simultaniously use data and talk, unless you are on wifi. That is only available on AT&T. Also, Verizon does not have 4g yet. The HTC Thunderbolt will be its first 4g compatible phone.

your iphone 4g isnt going to work ANYWHERE that there is 4g service as its not a 4g phone... the iphone works on a 3g network... "iPhone 4G" refers to the phone being the 4th generation not that it operates on a 4G network.

Because they have the 4g set up, but there are currently no devices compatible with 4g, until the HTC Thunderbolt this month. As the other poster said, you really need to do a lot of research on these matters. Use the search bar. There are many posts that could have solved your problems and possibly answer future questions to prevent future problems.

yeah, LTE data sticks are the only "4G capable" devices on verizon right now. LTE handsets will start with the launch of the Thunderbolt hopefully coming soon.

First of all, Verizon DOES currently have 4G, they just don't have any 4G capable phones. Their 4G network was launched back in November, I believe. At the time(and currently) the only devices which were 4g capable were USB modems. Also at the time, Verizon stated that the first 4G capable phones would be released by the late 2nd/early 3rd quarter of 2011. Now it looks as if these 4G capable phones MAY be released earlier, but as of now, no release dates have been announced.

Uhhhh... maybe because they currently sell 4G capable USB modems for computers... uhhhh... yeah, that's probably the reason, they have a product out that supports it, but it is not a PHONE.

"Some as early as march" was what was said at CES so the first really won't come any earlier than expected. As far as AT&T having 4G, meh. They rebranded HSPA+ as 4G just like tmobile which is "evolved" 3G (i.e. basically just a speed bump in their existing technology) so they could jump on the 4G bandwagon. And the AT&T iPhone 4 isn't even 4G capable in AT&T's definition. And with the Atrix 4G and Inspire 4G, it makes you wonder if they'll consider LTE as 5G. :smileyindifferent:

Actually you are wrong. Verizon Wireless employees are not allowed to get an iPhone on there personal account that has a employee discount. But there are some employees that have them on there business account. Or got them on a personal account with no employee discount. So the rep you talked to very well could have had a iPhone. And you can't lump all reps into that bad category because I have had a few reps go so far out of there way to help me. You just assume they lie because sales reps have a bad name. And yes they do have 4G devices. They are just air cards.

Even if that is true, it is still very well known that the iPhone cannot block calls or texts. The rep I personally spoke with said that he had certain numbers blocked on his iPhone 4. That right there makes that specific rep non-reliable, and leads me to believe that he was only trying to make a sale. Also the fact that after I told him I wanted to wait until I could use my NE2 upgrade (I talked online with him about a week before I was eligible, just to get some info) he kept pressuring me to upgrade then, and went on to try to convince me to upgrade the three other lines on my account that have been on month-to-month contracts for a year now. I still stand by what I said, because Verizon does not in fact have any compatible 4g phones atm.

?? The "technical support" folks aren't "paid to sell you phones", so perhaps they were just ill informed. But, they should have transferred you to the next tier of support. I've always found that as long as they know when to escalate, you will get to a person who knows what's going on.

And to be fair, there are only a couple of malcontents on these boards :smileyhappy:

I'm assuming you are referring to my post, because I was the one that said the reps are paid to sell you phones. But nowhere in any of my posts did I say technical support people were paid to sell you phones, nor in any other post on here.

My post was and still is:

"On the contrary, you'll get more correct information on these forums than you will from a Verizon rep or tech support. The Verizon sales reps are paid to sell you phones. They're going to lie left and right if they think it will get you to purchase a phone. I had an online rep tell me that he personally had an iPhone and had certain numbers blocked (because that was an issue for me) and I came to find out that, not only can the iPhone NOT block numbers, employees are not allowed to purchase the iPhone yet, so that rep couldn't have even owned one, let alone had numbers blocked on it. All they want is their pay check.

The posters on here do in fact want to help you and inform you, but when we see the same posts over and over, with everyone clearly not using the search button or doing research, it gets a bit irritating and I do apologize for being rude at all. I am simply trying to convey that 1. the antenna issue has in fact been resolved by getting a replacement from Verizon for most customers, and 2. the Verizon iPhone 4 is not 4g compatible (the name does not even include a 'G' as some people think. It is not like the iPhone 3gs) and 3. Verizon has set up its 4g network in preparation for it's first 4g compatible phone to be released this month. They have the 4g map up because they can't release a 4g phone without setting up their 4g network first."

AT&T does not have a iphone 4 on 4G network.. maybe iphone 5? idk

I'm eligible for "new every 2" the 16th. of this month and I'm trying to decide on either an iPhone4 or the Thunderbolt.
