So I got my iPhone today and am having issues with backup assistant.
I ran it on my old phone and have the VZW app on my iPhone.
I get to the part I entere my phone # and it passes validation, and says it sent me the SMS text with the authorization code.
However I am not getting any messages.
I've tried resending it about 5 times and still haven't had any luck.
ANyone have any ideas?
turn off your wifi then go back into the VZ transfer app on your phone.
I have tried that. at first it wouldnt validate the phone #, and then i turned off wifi, and now it validates the phone # and says it sends the text message, but I receive no text message.
I have the exact same problem does anyone have any answers for this?
Same problem here - wifi off, no text. Looking for answers.
I have a Mac and this is what I did:
1) Signed in to Backup Assistant on the Verizon website
2) selected all contacts
3) Exported contacts (Under Options) to a .csv file
4) from my desktop, I opened my Contacts
5) Imported my .csv file into my contacts on my desktop
6) Connected my device and synced my contacts
If you have a Windows PC you procedures might be a little different. Hope I helped.
I have also noticed when I log into backup assistant on verizonwireless.com , it is unable to retrieve my list of contacts.
So maybe this is the reason I'm not getting the text message.
Those of you who aren't getting text messages, can you access it on their website here?

Mine just keeps spinning and spinning, and eventually times out.
I was having the same problem - turned of WiFi, still nothing.
Then I sent a text message to my wife's phone with the simple message of "Testing" and as soon as I sent it, I received the 8-digit authorization text message.
My assumption is that the phone needed to realize it could send and receive text messages.
Give it a whirl and see if it works for you. If it does, post your findings.
I've already tried sending and receiving text messages and I can do that just fine ... still nothing from vzw though.
FINALLY FIGURED THIS OUT! IT HAS TO DO WITH AN ERROR BETWEEN WIFI AND VZ TRANSFER.
1. TURN OFF YOUR WIFI (IN SETTINGS)
2. OPEN VZ TRANSFER, REQUEST CODE
3. TURN ON WIFI, WRITE DOWN THE CODE ON THE TEXT
4. TURN OFF WIFI
5. RETURN TO VZ TRANSFER, INSERT CODE AND THEN BACKUP
6. ONCE ALL CONTACTS ARE TRANSFERRED, YOU CAN TURN WIFI BACK ON!
Thank you!! It worked )
I've tried everything in this forum as well. No luck! Booo
Still not working for me here.
I did remember though, which I don't THINK would make a difference but it may be the reason...
I did not turn off my old phone, it is still physically turned on.
It should not matter at all sine it's deactivated and my new phone is activated and working, however I wonder if somehow it is screwing this up. I am at work still and can't just turn it off until I get home and try it out.
This worked for me. I even had a choice to "resend code" because the first one flashed on and off the screen too fast for me to copy. I tried it about 17 times with home wifi on with no success and network timeout. Turned wifi off and worked like a charm. Good luck!
Thank you!! Turning off the wifi then went back into the VZ transfer app on phone worked for me...thank goodness, I spent all last night trying to get this to work. Also, I received the 8 didit authorization immediately.
Try turning wifi off and "roboot" phone then tap VZ transfer app.
I'm sorry you have not been able to backup your contacts on your new iPhone. To better assist you I will need to access your account so we can further trouble shoot and determine why you have not received the 8 digits access code to complete you contact backup. I will be sending you a private message so you can reply with your mobile number, a contact number, and the best time we can reach you.
Thanks
John B
I'm having the same problem. I wasn't able to do it at the Verizon store since I didn't have my email's POP server and needed to setup iTunes. The specialist backed up my contacts from the old phone and then downloaded the VZ Contact Transfer ap to the iPhone for me to use later.
I am now all setup and can run the contract transfer ap, but it won't send the text message. I turned off Wi Fi, turned off the iPhone and restarted it, even deleted and redownloaded the app.
I went to the Verizon Wireless and asked it to sync to phone, and got the //BREW message from 620-0 Astanton81 mentioned. Perhaps a web sync request comes in like that, and the iPhone doesn't know how to interpret i
I've asked it to resend the access code many times and I never received one. My WiFi is definitely off, and I can text others (and even myself, resulting in odd if therapeutic conversations).
Hi all. had the same problem
I did all the turning off the wifi thing, rebooted the phone the whole nine yards.
Then it hit me, sent the code to my wife's phone came immediately typed the code into my phone and worked.
after spending about two hours trying the suggestions in this forum, I finally called tech service. Here is what I found out.
1. you don't need backup assistant to restore your contacts from your previous phone.
2. In the iPhone 5S you install Verizon Cloud.
3. Then you go to contacts - don't try to sync devices if you have an older non-smart phone like I did
4. Hit the refresh symbol in the upper right corner and your contacts get pulled from the cloud to your phone.
So simple, I laughed and almost cried after the two hours+ of pulling my hair out
