does anyone else feel like verizon is biting the hand that pays them? amazon offers the eris for ten bucks? TWO months? after we loyal customers get a chance to buy it from verizon, with a 2 year contract, for $100? i'm calling "service provider change" after two more years of being stepped on by big red. i can't believe a company that depends on its customers would treat those who have been loyal with such utter lack of tact and care. i have been with verizon since i started using cell phones, and i am just about fed up with their treatment. t-mobile is looking pretty good with $50 unlimited monthly plans. \

Seriously though, anyone with half a brain knows if you get a new item when it comes out, you pay more. If you wait a while the price goes down. It's called supply and demand son.

Whenever you buy a phone from anyone else besides Verizon the price may vary because that company is buying the phone directly from the manufacturer. They get the set the price, a lot of times it's less expensive than dealing directly with Verizon but it can come at a cost. Since it's not purchase from Verizon they can set their own rules for returns/exchanges, sometimes they say you have to stay on a certain plan for a length of time, or even have their own ETF's on top of Verizon's.

It's the same with any carrier, so change and you'll be in the exact same boat in two years....

but verizon does that too! i had to sign a new 2 year contract with them to get the eris for a hundred bucks. ok, so i do and about a month later they (verizon) offer a two for one deal on the same phone. mind you, it was just over a month, so the people that bought the eris the day it came out couldn't return it and take advantage of their new "offer." i am just so sick of being had by them. i never hear a bad thing about t-mobile or at&t from the people who have them. they are happy with their network, i am not. and half price monthly bills, going from a hundred bucks to fifty makes a big difference. i think i'll suffer with a little worse coverage than paying out the wah-zoo to a company that doesn't care about its loyal customers.

Right, prices change, that's a fact of life! Go buy a pair of jeans...30 days later they are probably going to be on sale. To expect something to never change in price is ridiculous!

FYI, ATT plans are the same cost as Verizon....

Well, if you never hear a bad thing from people on other networks, then you need to talk with honest people. I had AT&T (Cingular or CellOne at the time) and they were terrible. It was long before "rollover" minutes, but hell I never went over my mins anyway and the reason was I could NEVER complete a call, honestly, I dont think I had a dozen calls in a year that did not get dropped. And if you think the pricing thing doesn't happen anywhere else, you are kidding yourself.

I just got 3 droids from Verizon @ 199.00 each, if I got new plans on Amazon, I could have saved $50.00 each unit. But I would have to cancel the current and get the new. sometimes it is worth it, sometimes not. I agree, it stinks paying more, but its going to happen, just think in 2 months it will be the free phone.

If you want it now, you pay and that aint just at Verizon

You should keep in mind that the $9.99 Eris offered on Amazon is only available with a new phone line. I ordered the Eris through Amazon, thinking that the "new service plan" meant a new two-year contract. Instead, they activated the phone the day I ordered it (yes, before I even had the phone!) and sent me an email with the new number.

I called Verizon to explain what had occurred and found out that there was no way to switch my current number to the new phone, per the terms of agreement with Amazon. Verizon ended up offering me a deal comparable to the Amazon promotion- only I was able to upgrade my current phone. I was eligible for the 'every two' $50 discount, plus they gave me a month of free data. With the $100 rebate, it cost me around $20- only $10 more than Amazon.

I later learned that there is a separate site on Amazon for phone upgrades, which is what I thought I was doing to begin with. The upgrade price for the Eris is $84 dollars or so.

With that said, I do believe that Verizon's service plans are the priciest of all carriers, but for someone like me who lives in a rural area, the extra cost is worth the reliability of knowing I can always get a signal.
