heres an Idea for Eris owners

I dont know if this would work it could be dumb but i was bored and thought bought it. What if Verizon let you trade ur eris in for the incredible. And base the cell phone codition on how much you would get as a trade in. If they did that I would totally trade my eris in. I just thought i would put that out there dont hate on it it was just an idea. It could be any phone not just the eris.

I've always been a big fan of the "trade and upgrade" process. I think it's really handy.

Sounds like a good business model. However, if it were your business, how much would you buy an Eris for and still hope to make a profit?

Lets see... considering they're going used for about $190-$210 on eBay

Excellent Cond. - I'd buy for no more then $130 with a resale of $180; maybe trade value of $150 tops for in store sales.

This is also under the assumption you have enough population in your area to support your used/new/trade model and still pay your bills and put food on the table.

Verizon itself make money on service, not really the phones. I think it's too much overhead to support a used phone with an official Verizon warranty.

Now, back to my "purchase" of your Eris... Would you sell it to me for $130 or trade for $150. Some would I'm sure.

EBGames/Gamestop's model seems to be successful.

I am totally with you on this. Some cell providers sometimes let you get the newer device if you just bought an older model phone. For example AT&T had the iPhone 3G released.They stated that if the original iPhone users had bought the original iPhone within a certain amount of time then they could upgrade to the 3G. Pretty cool when providers do that. I think Verizon should have something like that.

ya i just got the droid at the end of january i wish they would let me trade it in to get the devour or the incredible i would be willing to pay a small fee

I got my Eris on 3/27 bacause my old phone broke and they gave me an early early upgrade. I asked if I could get the Incredible on 3/29instead under the 30 day return with an extension... no luck, and that is 2 days out of the 30 days.

I hardly believe that they will let you trade up no matter how close or far you were from the release date. UNLESS you are close to your new every two.

Giving away phones (which is basically what you are suggesting) is not a good business model.

Another idea is to find a friend or relative with a verizon account that is month to month, offer them your eris and use their upgrade to purchase a phone you want. In fact I pre-ordered my incredible using my friend's line, I gave him my LG Versa and I used his upgrade! :smileywink:
