Messages can't be sent to this mobile number

I got my son the LG Ally when he went off to college last year. Unlimited texting plan is in place. I have been able to send him texts from my computers using Windows Live Messenger for the last year. Now, within the last week I cannot send him text messages this way. I get a return error that says "This message was not sent because messages can't be sent to this mobile number."

Nothing that I know of has changed with the phone, the service plan or with Windows Live Messenger.

Any ideas what is going on?

Did you or your son block "text messages from the web" through the lines MyVerizon account or through customer service?

That is an option available to prevent spam messages from email addresses or the web. An option I personally turned on as soon as I opened my current MyVerizon account.

I'll ask him to check that. I asked if he accidentally blocked me, but he said no. I didn't think about a general text from the web block.

I checked in My Verizon and that option is not checked. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I also sent this question to Verizon support and so far no response back.

Other things I tried. On my computer I did a system restore to a point prior to when the issue started. This did not help. I had him activate service on another phone (switched to a HTC Eris) and still I cannot send texts to his phone from WIndows Live Messenger.

I realize the need to stay connected with your son. I just have a few questions so that I can further assess the situation.

Are you able to send him a text message from an email address?

Do you get the error message right away or does it take some time to send first?

Do you have usage controls or any other restrictions on his line.

Lastly, can you send a message to another number?
