iphone shipped half way across country...AWAY from me today

So I'm located in San Diego, got the tracking info, and the iPhone was at the Ontario,CA hub which is the main UPS hub for all of Southern CA. Then it was shipped to San Diego's main distribution facility early this morning (2 am). I checked this morning and it showed that it arrived at San Diego at 2am, then at 6am, it said it departed to Kentucky!!!!!

Is UPS really shipping the package to Kentucky, then next day airing it back???? What's the point? It still shows a scheduled delivery of tomorrow before 3:00pm. If the package actually went to kentucky it's probably the most amazing display of inefficiency ever.

Anyone else see anything similar?

Someone in another thread said that all UPS packages have to go through Kentucky for some security reason. Weird. Here's what he said:

So I called UPS, guess what I was told, all air shipment must be scanned in KY prior to delivery to destination for "security reasons". However. it will be delivered as schedule 10/14.

No idea but I know that Verizon does overnight or 2-day shipping usually so I'm sure you'll receive it tomorrow. May be a glitch in UPS' system or something.

No just looked on the tracking number thread and apparently this is happening to everyone in Southern California's iphones. Really bizarre. Apparently all air shipments have to go through KY. What's even stranger is it was already in Ontario which is the main hub and they take everything by truck from Ontario to the small hubs in each city and then on trucks onto the distribution center.

So all the actual flying has already been done...except, now they're flying it to KY and back for no reason. It's incredible that the Post Office is as inefficient as it is when UPS does stuff like this and still gets their packages delivered on time.

Tidbits

All shipments will be routed to their main distrobution center regardless of origin. I have had things shipped from Asia and ends up in Kentucky... Although it would be cheaper to just dropped it off in Hawaii first.

The only thing people need to be concerned with is the delivery date. The route the phone takes to get there is irrelevant. They said it'd be there on the 14th and it will be. Obviously, FedEX, UPS, and USPS have been doing this for a long time and got a system down that works. Believe me, they're doing it the most efficient way for the company as a whole. Individually, it might not make sense sometimes, but in the big picture..it does.
