Have you tried dialing *228 and choosing option 2 to see if that helps? Contacted Verizon to make sure there isn't a device issue or find out if there is a service issue?
I would check with other students to see if they have any coverage issues with Verizon in your area. If so it is a carrier issue, if they are experiencing good coverage could be an issue with the device.

I can certainly understand your need to have service at your school address. I checked Atchison, KS on our map and I do show there are several patches of white, meaning no service. If you put in your exact address, you will be able to tell what kind of coverage to expect there. I also checked to see if we have submitted any trouble tickets for the area, and it looks like most of Atchison is going to be spotty for coverage. I apologize about the inconvenience.
