Calendar Sync :: Droid2 Global... ??

Hi all, and thank you in advance for your help. I have utilized this forum for a long time now, and only today found it necessary to create a profile so I could ask this question.

In my options / profile it shows that Calendar Sync is available on my device, a Motorola Droid2 Global. However; I can find no supporting documentation @Verizon to assist me in syncing my calendar with my device so, I am looking to the experts (that's you all!) for support.

For reference, I manage my Calendar in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007; Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (personal, not corporate). I *could* -- if I really, really had to -- begin managing my calendar in gmail, but I do not at all wish to do so.

The error happens only once, but I think that once the error shows, the sync doesn't sync anymore until I clear the error message. The error also hangs up Google Calendar Sync @ 99%.

But the error only happens when Outlook is closed, and it doesn't happen every sync. I believe that I left it at default 120 minutes because this is my home calendar, and no one puts anything on the calendar when I am not at home. I close Outlook on my desktop because some days I get on my laptop without opening the desktop. That way I don't have to clear both laptop and desktop emails out (both emails are set to leave the messages on the server until I delete them because I use both computers every day). But the days that I am on the desktop a lot and have email open, the error never comes up, so if you leave Outlook open, the error doesn't popup. I have left email open on the desktop by accident some days and the error never shows.

Your welcome... I like to talk about what I use and how it works, no matter if it works well or not. I also like free more than paid if the free functions for what I need. If there is no free that works for me, I don't mind paying for the functionality as long as it works the way I need it to work

There are options to sync your phone to your Outlook

Check this website http://www.syncdroid.net/ It contains a table of programs to sync Outlook to Android, both paid and free. The table also shows the different capabilities for each one, along with the versions of Outlook that they work with.

I personally use Google Calendar sync http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955

I only sync my calendar to my phone. I like to keep my phone contacts and my Outlook contacts separate. I also keep my work emails/contacts/notes etc separate from my personal stuff on my phone.

Thank you, curtterp. That is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Now I just need to figure out which piece of software will work best for me. That's quite a comprehensive list!

I'm curious why you like to keep your Outlook and your phone contacts separate, as I'm wondering if you've thought of something I haven't.

I looked into Google Calendar sync, and I would have liked to utilize it as well, but it is unfortunately not compatible with a 64-bit OS.

The Google Calendar Sync is not compatible with Windows XP 64bit systems, it works with my Windows 7 64bit system. If your running XP, I would venture a guess that you are running a 32 bit system, since XP in 64bit mode was not a normal install.

I keep my contacts separate from my phone and Outlook, because my phone only has contacts that I might call, or businesses that I need the GPS to get to. My Outlook contacts are more for family which I keep their address's but not call. There are some contacts that exist in both, but with about 100 more contacts in Outlook than the phone, I really do not want to keep them synced. It's not a real compelling reason why not, but its just my preference

I do get an error with Outlook almost every day. For some reason, Outlook gets an error "Outlook has encountered an error and must close" .... it happens at 99% of sync. It doesn't seem to affect the sync, just is an annoyance for the most part. I use Outlook 2010, but it did happen with Outlook 2007, but with less frequently.

I noticed after I responded to you that Google Calendar Sync was incompatible with Windows XP 64-bit OS, and I am running Win7 w/64-bit. I didn't catch the "XP" because of exactly what you noted, that 64-bit is atypical for XP. Thank you for pointing it out, though. Good lookin' out.

That is an excellent reason for not syncing Contacts... I have several hundred more contacts in Outlook than I do in my phone (for business and whatnot), and they are not people with whom I regularly converse with on my phone, and I really don't need their contact information bogging down my phone and cluttering up my contact list in my phone. I just hadn't really thought it through, I guess.

So, Outlook gets an error and closes during the sync once per day? So long as it doesn't affect the sync, I could live with that. The example screenshot shows the set-up to sync every 120-minutes. Is that how you have it set up, or once every 24-hours?
