Droid Eris Issues

I have a droid eris that was running just great while on OS version 1.5. Since the recent OTA 2.1 update I have had nothing but problems with the device. Here are some of the issues I have seen:

1. Sluggish, it seems much slower than it did before.

2. Silent ringer. It does not always ring when a call comes in even though the ringer is set on high.

3. Slow to make outgoing calls. It takes 10 seconds before it places an outgoing call.

4. It randomly launches applications that were not clicked on, and the touch screen does not seem to be as sensitive as it was before.

Is there a way to go back to OS version 1.5? I really dislike my phone now and it worked great before their update. Thanks in advance.

I suspect if you did a hard reset, the phone would revert to the OS that was originally loaded. But be sure to backup anything you want saved.

i did the hard reset and it does not go back to v1.5.....it stays with 2.1. personally, i don't see much diff doing the hard reset other than fixing the speed dial prob. it's still sluggish, never had the silent ringer prob, still a delay in making calls, still have to push hard on the touch screen but i only find that as an intermitten issue. i was having probs with the screen going black and not coming back on prior to the reset...it seem to have fixed that. the battery life STINKS!! was not great on 1.5 but i can't believe they said 2.1 was suppose to improve the battery and mine has gotten horribly worse. it makes no sense i have to charge at least 2x a day, even having the task killer. i didnt use the task killer much on the 1.5 and could get 1-1.5 days on a charge. so many apps are running on this version that did not run on the old. i'm still trying to decide if i want to put the 2.1 leaked v3 on. heard that's great. i use to love this phone a lot...now i can't wait til 2/8/2011 to do an early upgrade to something else unless HTC or VZW fix this stuff.

Since the update, I was having the dead incoming/outgoing call issue, loss of touch tones/ring/notification sounds on my Droid Eris. The only solution was to power off my phone and turn it back on. Verizon sent me 2 replacement units, both of which experienced the same problems. My solution was to go into a Verizon store and get a new unit with 1.5 on it. Since then, I have had no problems, but now I have to wait until the supposed patch that the techs are working on to come out before I can update. I miss having more than 1 Gmail account synced to my phone.

A hard reset is different from a factory reset. The hard reset involves turning off power and pulling your battery and will only bring your phone to a full stop, causing everything to restart. This may solve some minor issues, but some of the bigger issues need a factory reset (menu>settings>about phone>factory data reset) which brings the phone back to factory fresh condition, although still on 2.1. You lose all apps, contacts, personalization, etc., but it can clear up a lot of bugs. Once you re-sync with gmail any contacts saved there will return, though some MAY turn up missing. The first time you go into the market, your apps will be there to download, but don't leave before you're done as you will have to re-search for any that aren't paid for. Any thing on your SD card should be safe. Unfortunately, this does not solve the sound issues some are having. The only thing, so far, to do about that is either pull your battery every day, return your phone and hope you get one without this bug (it's not universal, I got lucky), or wait to see if it gets fixed. I would also recommend not using a task killer, especially an automatic one, as they can actually make the phone slower and HURT battery life, plus they are not necessary. The thing that is killing me is people including Verizon's support keep saying "do a hard reset" or "have you done a factory reset". This is not a solution; this is not a fix. This is what we call a **bleep** work around. Why should I pay for the most expensive plan Verizon has, if I have to restart or reset the phone in order to use the features!! What kind of a fix is just restart it pull the battery out and then you should be ok. I had the lg dare for 2 years and not one complaint. I have the droid eris for 2 months and have already had one phone sent back and now the replacement is a pile of junk just 24 hrs after activating it. I just want to get rid of this piece of junk or give me a phone that has 1.5 on it.
