Hello HTC EVO - G'Bye Nexus One

I'm tired of waiting for no news on the Nexus One. I told our Verizon rep that if he could give us some info as to when to expect the Nexus or if we could even get it from Verizon instead of through Google, our company would stay. But I just get that "deer in the headlights" look back like he has no clue.

Well here comes the new HTC EVO. Everything a smartphone should be. So we've waited this long for "NexusOne coming soon to Verizon", a few months more for a better phone won't kill us.

Well where I can certaintly agree that it's a wonderful device...It's on the Sprint network.

Call me crazy but I thought you loved yourself more than to switch over to a provider that's sub-par compared to VZW.

I agree, I think I am done waiting on Verizon to deliver one of the new HTC Android phones. My company is ending it's Sprint Corporate plan this month. I have to get a phone between march 26th and the 6th of April. I think I am going to go with Sprint. Get a cheap phone and wait. At least they kind of let you know what is going on and seem interested in newer technology. I honestly think they will have the Nexus One before Verizon at this point....

I do not know why Verizon is so slow ( or secretive ) about announcing new phones....

That HTC EVO will be the best phone ever.... Think about it, it can act as a WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices over the new 4G network. I live in Atlanta and that 4G speed would be sweet....

I think I am done looking at Verizon as well....

I never said I was going to Sprint, I just commented showing the link to the device info and wish Verizon could move faster than the speed of smell when it comes to offereing new devices.

Now that's a sharp looking phone...a little big for my taste, but nice! That side-by-side with the Nexus and Iphone makes it look HUGE!

WHY...WHY...WHY is it that verizon never seams to get the best phones. Yes i agree that they have the better service. I laugh my **bleep** off everytime my friends with iphones have dropped calls. Its like watching the key-stone cops with a cell phone. Yet....i have a storm 2 and it SUCKS **bleep**. My brother has a Droid...and im sorry...but this EVO kicks the droid to the curb and it wont get up anytime soon. Nexus One...more like Has Been 2.

Why cant these carriers and manufacturers just make a great phone (EVO) and send it across the board to verizon, at&t, tmobile and sprint and then let us decide which carrier is the best for the region we live in...instead of picking the phone we like best...and then have to live witht he service that may or may not work?

jjbecket, thank you! Finally someone with the guts to say what we're all thinking!! Why can't we pick the phone we like from whomever, be it Apple, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, etc and then go with whichever carrier is best for our area.

Unfortunately, where I live Verizon is pretty much the only way to go as the other carriers service is'nt adequate. AT&T not too bad, but not as good as Verizon. So, we're pretty much stuck with whatever Verizon offers, and yes, they do indeed drag behind everyone else when it comes to having the nicer, better featured,must up-to-date phones. I think they know that because they have the best coverage which forces the majority to go with them, then they are in no hurry to spend the money and time to have the latest and best phones, because they already have most of us! :smileysad:

i have been with T-mobile, at&t and sprint.

in no way have they been able to compare to the phones that verizon have offered now and in the past.

when i had sprint and then t moble, i had the flip open phone, verizon came out with the phones where the keyboard slide open.

when i had at&t, i had the LgVu c920, verizon had the touches and omnia's

the G1? please, the G1 couldnt hold a candle to the droid (i actually wanted to say something else but it would only get modified)

so the other companies get lucky and come out with a newer phone first, it's probably only because they paid up the waazhoo to get it before verizon.

it was apple that came to verizon FIRST for the iphone, but it was Verizon that said no because they cared more about customer service than bow down to apple, i guess at&t didnt mind being apples whipping boy.

wanna leave verizon, then leave, guarantee you will be on the other forums in a couple of months complaining how the customer service of AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint stink, how support for the phones are no where to be found, or how come Verizon just got the latest new phone while you have a piece of junk that doesn't do what you want.

i agree 100% with this post...the person who posted before i guess didnt want the iphone for at&t that has been out for years...i was sooo excited when the nexus one was confirmed for verizon on january 5th...before that i has highly considering the driod but i kno the Nexus One is better...even since the end of january i have been online almost every day lookin for a release date for Verizon but nothing came up untill early march when a rumor started that Verizon would announce something on the 23rd...that has come and past...i hope they say somthin soon because if they dont i m taking my business somewhere else like sprint. or hell at&t...i hope Verizon proves me wrong and annonces somthing within the next two days...but if not...will be gettin a good phone on a subpar carrier but at least i will be getting a good phone

Its none of my business of course, but would you really give up the customer service and coverage you get with one carrier to get a "cooler phone" on another?

So you are leaving Verizon for Sprint? are you listening to what you are saying? have you dealt with their customer service? Their network? good luck on that... specially with their HUGE 4g footprint... Verizon is getting 4g very soon.

It's not as easy as making 1 phone for everyone. Verizon is CDMA where as most other carriers are GSM. With GSM if you get a phone unlocked it can go on any other GSM carrier but because Verizon uses CDMA only CDMA phones will work. So phone manufacturers would either have to make all phones CDMA and GSM in or or 2 different models. Which I'm sure will only increase the cost of phones.

i feel like i m being talked to from a bunch of verizon reps...i have been with verizon for 8 years now and yes i never had a problem and also never really had to call for service other than some **bleep** bill mistakes but in jersey there is really no problem with service from other providers...so i dont need the customer service here in jersey...in another state maybe but in jersey everyone pretty much has the same coverage

Yeah, Verizon is getting 4G. But they probably won't have any phones that can use it. We'll see that 4G is released and not get any time frame on a compatible phone :smileytongue:

I have to agree with you about AT&T and Sprints customer service/tech support. I was with both companies and the reason why I left both was the horrible, horrible service I got. However, I still cannot help but be frustrated in the lack of information from Verizon regarding new phones....especially one I've been waiting ooooohhhhh sooo long for.

and what makes sprint sub par?

the free roaming on other CDMA carriers?

the cheaper plans?

the great customer service ( havent had any issues and get discounts on as well)

great 3g speeds?

great call quality?

wow bad points for sprint. Guess they are subpar darn. In all honesty verzion has one thing and only one thing over sprint... its size. Verizon can over charge its customers and get away with it... sprint cant. For now.

Ok....Here is the thing. Verizon is the only carrier i can get. Im from NY and Live in Queens. Sprint? No. Ive heard so many bad stories about them in the NY area its insane. The their so called 4G nerwork wont work in NYC right now anyway. T-Mobile. Are you kidding. I might as well give whomever im calling a string and a paper cup. AT&T? I think anytime a company stops selling their top product in your area (iphone anyone) thats a sign that they suck....in that area.

So verizon knows it has areas like New York, San Fran and other major cities by the {word filter avoidance}
.....and says....oh should we sell a brand new state of te art HTV EVO type phone? ehhhh...why, when we can give these poor fools crap and they will like it.

looks like it is time to put this issue back into the spotlight...still no fricken word on the nexus one...and if u have anything to say about the Kin...i dont care...i like the andriod OS...but yes now it looks like Sprint might be the way to go for me. EVO here i come

I agree with everyone here Sprints not up to par and neither is T-Mobile.... But Verizon is starting to get old to me i mean looking around at all the carriers nowadays it seems like there getting new phones every month or so. Smartphones are becoming more and more common even with older generations of people but i believe that Verizon is still trying to get dumb crap phones in there lineup and not so many smartphones for some reason. I mean common with all the phones out NO ONE! wants an EnV 3 or a Blackberry Curve anymore! I don't know when there supposedly getting new phones but i hope its soon! I love my droid but these new phones (EVO) are looking pretty stunning.

I say the EVO is THE phone!! Not going to go with Sprint though. I'll bet the rent money that VZW will have an HTC phone just like it or even better real soon! In the mean time, I'll grab the Incredible.

Sorry but sprint so much better then verizon. No where else you can spend 200 a month and have 5 smart phones. Verzion is over priced and only reason its network is so big is becasue of aquistions. But hey your a huge 3g network to bad your 4g hasnt taken off yet. At least you guys are getting the incredible.. you know the baby smaller version of the evo. I hope verzion NEVER buys sprint I dont wanan have to spend tons of money for just about the same service. I know I know your network is huge but with sprint I can use your network for free love free roaming.
