Droid Eris 2.1 Update Phone Destroyer

Since the update I've had the no audio problem, lag, half battery life. I've been reseting my phone 1-2 times a day to make/ receive calls since then waiting for a patch or something to fix these problems. Then I find that verizon/HTC are apparently not addressing these wide spread problems so I did a factory reset because I heard it worked for some. After that did not work I called verizon who did not directly acknowledge the Eris update problems I'm sure that they have heard already. I'm going to recieve the refurbished replacement and upon asking verizon if it comes with the 2.1 update already installed they did not know because HTC which will be sending the phone. So I call HTC, who DID acknowledge the update problems that ruin the phone but did not know if it was pre-installed with 2.1. since it was coming through verizon.

The only answer I recieved was when I asked the HTC rep if it did not come already updated if she would recommend me updating to 2.1. and she said NO.

Hi. I am sorry you was having issues your phone and we can certainly look into it for you. Did you receive the new phone? If so, are you having the same issues?

This is a very common problem, but does not happen to EVERY Eris. There was an update that started to go out a couple weeks ago, but was pulled for some reason. They are working on it, it's probably just not that easy a fix.

I can so relate to your problems. I am now on my 4th phone in 6 months. I have had just about every problem that everyone else has had in one. I have horrible audio problems, I can't hear the person on the other end and they can't hear me. My phone is locked with a password due to my Exchange Server, which would be fine, until my call drops and goes to locked screen and then freezes up, so I have to turn it off to un-freeze it before attempting to return the dropped call. Which doesn't always work either, due to the fact that I have issues dialing out. Let's see....my home screen moves by itself. It will be on the main screen and all of a sudden it will move to the right until it gets to the last screen and then won't let me return back to my homescreen. My trackball cursor won't move left. I can move it up, down and to the right, but when I move the trackball to the left, the cursor won't move. When I click on an application on my homescreen it doesn't open the application, it doesn't even pick it up like to move it, it just highlights and does nothing.

I had this other issue before and they sent me a new battery because of it and it worked for awhile , but it's starting to happen again...when my phone is on a charger, car, wall, pc, it gets hot and I mean HOT. To the point where I can't even pick it up. I don't know what the issue is with that. I guess I need to have another new battery sent to me?

I too came from AT&T to Verizon because of the better signal service, I would say service in general, but after 4-5 times of going into my VZW store the manager basically told me that he had never heard of anyone having these problems and that there were employees who had this phone and had no problems. I referred to forms just like this that show otherwise and he still denied everything, basically saying that it was a user error and that I was an idiot and didn't know how to use my phone. I can honestly say, that after being a T-Mobile, AT&T and now a Verizon customer that Verizon has the best signal service of any company. Now, if they would just acknowledge their faulty product and not blame the customer or make them pay $500+ for a new phone, if they don't want a "Certified Whatever" or if they don't want (understandably so) another replacement. I think that after 4 phones and all of them having the same problems and more that it's the phone and no replacement is going to fix it. I am so frustrated, angry and quite frankly **bleep** at how Verizon is treating their customers. It's not our fault that we were sent faulty devices and continue to.

I'm beginning to think that a lot of these refurb phones were originally returned for the same issues. They probably get wiped, original firmware installed, checked for physical flaws, then sent back out with the real problem unnoticed and un-fixed.

Glad to know that it is not just me.. I am so frustrated with my phone ever since the upgrade. Can't answer/make calls reliably, can't use the speed dial, phone lags big time and some days I have to reboot it 3 or more times. Also, I started having issues with my SD Card. Can't save pictures anymore. Phone is almost useless to me at this point.

I just spoke with Amber who is a tech support supervisor and was completely shut down on this problem (HTC eris 2.1 update). All of the well documented phone problems since the update are now happening to my wifes phone and our business is suffering because of it. How can we be compensated for business and customers already lost by my company due to this problem. When i asked who is responsible for the update coming on to the phone, she blamed HTC. My issue is that we bought our phone from verizon and pay money to verizon so why am i needing to call HTC? They are taking advantage of the convoluted mess of having three companies involved being google, HTC and Verizon. Getting the same useless phone as a replacement is not the answer to our problems as we continually lose money with our phone based business. My wife and I were both very happy customers at Verizon until this update and the response. We had a fair proposal that would make the situation right which Verizon will not agree to. She compared it to buying a tv at walmart and that any problems with the item must be taken up with the manufacturer outside of the warranty. I say that is apples and oranges since a phone is made up of the hardware, software and service and much different than a TV. It's like the cable company(verizon) selling you a tv then zapping it with something that breaks it. Please fix this VERIZON or you will hear from a lawyer soon and lose many customers!

I hate my phone since the update too. Horrible lag, major decrease in battery life, can't program speed dials, drops calls often, and my "Favorites" selection that was my speed dial work around takes a whole bunch of clicks to get to, rendering it pointless. I used to have Favorites on one of my slidable home screens with a default function attached to the picture (SMS, call mobile, etc.) Now, it's gone. My phone now makes me angry every time I use it. Not so much fun.

Is that the fix? A new phone with version 2.1 preloaded on it rather than downloading the update? If that is the case, how do I sign up?

I would think that if phones were preloaded with 2.1 they could be tested but the silent bug can be so fickle that it might not get caught. There is, though, an ota fix that is supposed to start going out on the 16th.

After 3 replacement Eris phones, my only solution was to go into the verizon store and get a replacement with 1.5 on it. They told me not to do any OS updates and that they had no idea when the fix would come out. Now the phone is discontinued, which will only create more problems for us, the owners. Verizon should give the Incredible as a replacement for the Eris. What are we supposed to do? Live with the fact that we were sold a device that isn't capable of functioning to it's full potential
