If you bought Asurion insurance for your iPhone, cancel it IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

It is the BIGGEST ripoff EVER.

I paid $99 for my iPhone 2 years ago on a promotion, and I have been paying Asurion $10 a month for insurance very since.

When my phone was stolen and I made a claim, the deductible is $199.

The brochure is the Verizon lists 2 deductibles for phones: $49 and $99. The "customer service" MORON with whom I spoke told me that this is not applicable to iPhones. When I asked where this information could be found in the brochure, I was told it was listed on the WEBSITE!!!!!

My phone sells for less $100 on Ebay. Why would I want to pay a $199 deductible to replace it through Asurion.

These people are a RIPOFF!!!!!!! Do not use them. Cancel your insurance if you have it. Spread the word.

I am considering filing a small claims suit against them. If there is a lawyer out there who is looking for a class action suit, here is a perfect one!

I do not see how you have a deductible of 199, the deductible for iphones are actually 169.99, and it is not a verizon service that it goes through, it goes through Asurion, which almost all cell phone providers go through, To be honest, insurance saves alot for the people who have accidents, for a new iphone, you would have to spend about 650.00 for a brand new phone. I'm surprised you would sell your iPhone for 100$, I see most run about 200$ at least. That brochure must be very old because around Winter time, notifications were sent out to all customers around Christmas time, when the 4s came out, I think it was early January Asurion changed the iPhone's deductible, because it is the most targeted phone for being stolen, I think Apple pushed that out actually, lost or stolen or damaged still pays the same deductible no matter what. Insurance usually saves the most when you need the extended warranty though, it covers any internal problems in the phone as long as you have the device, it doesn't expire, but the manufacturer warranty expires after only a year, so it is very beneficial if you think about it, I get insurance on everything, well except Ps3, Walmart's policy isn't very good.

I actually did come to an agreement with Asurion for the lower deductible that is in the brochure, but for the record, an Ebay search on my phone model (it's a few years old) lists it for less than $99 from SEVERAL sellers. AND, when I was in the Verizon store earlier today, I was told I could purchase a brand new iPhone from Verizon (the latest model) for $240, NOT EVEN CLOSE to $650. I've never heard of ANYONE paying $650 for an iPhone. That's ridiculous. That's more than the cost of an IPad.

The deductible WAS originally $199 -- there is no confusion about this -- although (as I said) Asurion did honor the original deductible agreement with me.

I have Assurion on one of the phones that just magically appeared on the bill. Verizon will not let me cancel it so I don't know why someone says to tell Verizon to cancel immediately. It ain't going to happen. I know for a fact i didn't agree to an extra $6.99 a month for ins. I do not ever buy insurance because they never pay for anything. There is always a disclaimer.

Well I was talking about if you didn't have an upgrade, most people don't have that fall back, which would cost them about 650$ without insurance.

Barry you can cancel it, call Customer Service, any representative can cancel the insurance as simple asthat, however, unless there are notes saying you declined it and it was added, you will will not get re-imbursed for however many months the insurance was on your account, but you CAN cancel at any time, guaranteed.

I don't understand. I could replace the phone that was stolen for less than $100. I could purchase the latest and greatest iPhone from Verizon for $240. $650 doesn't enter into the picture in either scenario.

You can ALWAYS get a used iPhone on Ebay for less than $100.

at least with ausrion you dont have to run the risk of buying a stolen device and having zero protection if it ever breaks or you need a warranty replacement in the future

Could you imagin, buying a phone for $200 bucks and then you can't even activate it. Or in a few months do a software update that ruins your phone and you have zero ability to return it? out another 200

very good points made. the question then is: is it worth paying 10 bucks a month for that protection. after a year thats 120 bucks plus another 199 to replace the phone thats 320 bucks. I don't know about that there are top sellers on ebay and such sits that are reputable and offer some sort of guarantee. you will only have to deal with a temporary phone for less than another year anyway because by that time you are eligible for an upgrade.

Insurance is going to be a different need and desire for everyone. If you're a user who's known to break or lose phones, then this may pay off just after a few months. Every individual will find whether they feel they need it or not. Some don't want to deal with a different device and would rather pay $320 (at the year mark) to get a replacement than get something from eBay.

For anyone who may be interested in cancelling their Asurion coverage, I recommend only making that phone call when you have a really long time to wait. I am currenlty on hold to cancel and have been on hold for 39 minutes now. Extremely poor service. I would think that should be an issue to Verizon since, in my own case, I have been a Verizon customer for years.

I have been on hold for more than 1 hour trying to cancel the insurance on two lines, This is totally frustrating and ridiculous!!!!!

your upset becasue you have to wait? wow how sad is that there are other customer ahead of you and to LLavallee why would it be an issue thru verizon the service is provided thru someone else and if your complaining because of your deductable try paying full retail for device then your really going to wish you had insurance

If the CSRs are cross trained, then why couldn't the person I first talked to take care of the cancellation? If the area is comprised of specialists, then my wait was due to the fact that there were hundreds of people canceling today!

BTW, I have had the insurance one the two phones for 15 months. We are now past the time where keeping the insurance makes any sense!

I used to work as an IPhone advisor. Yes - people would pay $650 to send their phone in (guarantee the shipment in and return) and pay for a new phone if the damage or problem was due to an accident (like getting pushed into a pool). I was amazed at how many people would have 3-4 Iphones at $499 - $599 each.

Say what you will about Asurion but they gave me minimal hassle in making a claim. I bought my iphone 5 in Nov. One day last week I had to take my 3 year old daughter to the Dr and she grabbed my iphone to play with it. After grabbing it it fell less than 2 feet to the tile floor and shattered the screen. It was in an Otterbox Defender and the screen ruptured so don't count on you Otterbox providing that protection. She simply fumbled the ball so to speak; she has her own ipad so she knows how to treat stuff. It was an accident pure and simple. I did an online claim (no calling anyone) Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon the new phone arrived via fedex. It looks like a brand new phone (I've gotten refurbs/factory rejects from Verizon before).

For me $169 beats the heck out of $600.

To top it off I'd been meaning to cancel the insurance. I'm glad I didn't.

Another option would be don't let a 3 year old child grab your phone and save the cost of the insurance. Most accidents are due to carelessness. How many times does someone post, "I dropped my phone in the toilet"?

I've had cell phones for years and never lost one, never had one stolen, and never had one dropped, broken, or failed. I also never spent a penny for insurance. It's not that difficult to take care of a $650 piece of electronic equipment if you want to.

Insurance is always a judgment call. Do you foresee yourself using the insurance? Is your device even worth it? If you have an iPhone 4, it might not be worth it to you if you pay $10 a month and then a $169 deductible, but if you have an iPhone 5, you might feel otherwise. And yes, the agents at Customer Service are definitely able to remove the insurance for you; just be wary of the fact that you won't be able to put it back on.
