Who really shot JFK?

Is the question I feel I'm asking when I try to get any information from Verizon. Why are they being so secretive about OS updates...new phone products?

From the movie a Few Good Men "I WANT THE TRUTH!!....YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!"....Isn't it kind of like that?

It's almost like they think they have to sign a firm date in their own blood. Or that we'll take their first born if it's not delivered as promised. They are pushing out 2.1 over in Europe within a week I believe...why not here? If they were more professional and proactive they could eliminate most of the frustration and confusion. I just don't appreciate all the secrecy and no information given to paying customers. We're left to our own devices to search for incomplete/unconfirmed information that should be delivered.

I hope I never find myself on a Verizon cruise line...I'd have a time trying to get information as to where the life boats are!!

Details of upcoming software updates and new products are not communicated to front line reps including Customer Service, Sales and Tech Support. That type of information is kept secret because it's proprietary. Leaked information can put any carrier at a competitive disadvantage, so naturally the information is heavily guarded.

Also, I imagine that a carrier doesn't want to commit to a specific date if they can't eventually meet it. If a software update for a phone is in the process of being tested there's no telling how long it can take to get it approved. Especially considering VZW's testing process is vigorous and lengthy.

So I think they'd rather not get anybody's hopes up about an upcoming software update and then disappointed because there's continuing software issues.

I understand your frustration, but try to have a little more patience with things. It's a good virtue to have. And keep in mind that this stuff really isn't communicated to customer facing reps, so sometimes they really don't know what's coming.

There are some non-tech savvy reps that I've spoken to that don't even know sites like Crackberry.com, AndroidCentral.net or PhoneArena.com exist, much less any new phones of OS updates coming out.

I like the "Who really shot JFK?" I read on one of the forums that Verizon wont start selling the new phones until the bogo offer has passed the 30 day make so that people wont return their other DROIDS or any other phone that was purchased from Verizon. It was someone elses opinion but it makes sense to me. Does it make me happy no because my curve that I have had for less than a month constantly drops calls. I was given a replacement phone today..LOL I came home and tried to use it..LOL yes I said tried to use it. I will switch back to ATT and get the iphone if they dont update by the end of the month so that I don't have to eat the 375 for the phone I have now. The service isn't worth it if it doesn't work when I need it. I am going to try the WIFI service with my wifi and see if it still drops calls.

normally, i dont get involved in these forums about where is the 2.0 or 2.1 OS for the two droids however i must say something on this one. someone mentioned you need to have patience & the upcoming updates are not communicated to the sales reps. i dont know how long this has been promised to the customers but it must have been for a while. after a while, you cannot help but get frustrated & lose patience. i haven't lost patience yet & probably wont since i really like my Eris, but it's not fair being told one thing, esp by a large corporation, & not getting what you're expecting.

as far as the reps not knowing...when i started shopping for the Droids in Jan...i was told the Eris was getting an OS upgrade; nothing was said about the Moto. when i paid my $20 early upgrade fee & got the Eris in early February, one of the reasons i went w/ the Eris is b/c the sales rep who sold me the phone said why spend $100 more on the Moto when you are going to have the same OS on the Eris that works just as good as the Moto. i'm not phone savy so i took the word of the VZW sales rep. that rep also made it sound like the update was coming within a cpl weeks. if they know nothing as far as release dates, they SHOULD NOT be using it as a selling point to the customer. if they want the customer to know, they should say 'there is a POSSIBILITY the phone will be updated to a higher OS but the release date is unknown. could be a week, could be several months, no details at ths time'. then that would help me decide if i want to spend extra $ & get the 2.0 system now or be cost conservative, patient, and wait to see what happens with the less expensive phone. i went to VZW last week with a friend who is shopping for a phone & they are still telling folks, the update will be out before the end of March. again, why is VZW telling customers this if they really dont know?
