Is there a SMS / Text Messaging Limit?

I have a DROID using Android version 2.2.3

My question is ..... is there a limit to the number of text messages per contact that remain on your phone?

I have text messages to over 130 phone numbers. For many of them, my phone has the complete history of text messages ever sent. Many go back to August 2010!!

However, there are 3 "frequently texted" contacts where the history only goes back to to last month. Granted I have texted each of them hundreds of times....so is that the reason for the lost history??

Most likely there is a default limit. Go to messaging, press menu and go to messaging settings and you should see what the messaging limit is per conversation. However be careful. If you get too many your phone can become horribly slow after time.

There's not really a limit to the number of texts, but there is a setting to delete old messages.

For smartphones, his/her droid most likely does default to a limit, it's under messaging settings. Mine does too

Yes, and also as you mentioned in your other post, the more you keep, the more internal memory it will use, and may fill up or make your phone run sluggish. Just keep that in mind..

As D.U. Suggested there is a Default Limit of 200 you can Go higher But it could Cause issues. So i would say the best thing to do is to stay with the Default 200..
