I just lost my phone but was waiting for new Iphone 5 what to do in meantime?

My DroidX2 ended up in the ocean today. I am eligible for an upgrade, but I was planning to wait for the new Iphone 5 before getting a new phone. Obviously I don't have the SIM card, so I am wondering if/how I can buy a used phone to get me through a few weeks or couple of months and get it activated since I don't have my old SIM card. I am a little clueless about all of this so I apologize in advance if this is a very elementary question.

Basically your line is gonna remain standard as normal.

Find a cheapie basic phone and place it on there for a few months and you won't need to pay for a data package.

IF for some particular reason you do have the unlimited data you need to have a smartphone on the account or you can switch to a basic but you will not get it back and it will disappear forever after 14 days in the account features.

Do you have an unlimited data plan? I could be wrong about this, but I think you need to get a smartphone back on-line within about 14 days or you could lose your unlimited data. You might want to call *611 and ask about this. As I said, I could be wrong.

I didn't cancel anything yet, since I know the phone wasn't stolen and isn't being used. I do have the unlimited data. Think I will try to find something used to get me through until I can make a decision on whether to get the new Iphone 5 or see if I can find get the Iphone 4s at discount after Iphone 5 is released.

I guess it comes down to just how valuable unlimited data is for you! As others have said, you cannot put a basic phone on the line for now. So you either need a smartphone or do nothing, (which means no phone and still paying for service) to keep unlimited. And then of course you would have to buy the iPhone 5 at full price if you go that route.

Otherwise you can just get a basic phone for now, drop the data plan, and then at upgrade time get a subsidized smart phone on a tiered data plan. I know it is hard to give up unlimited, I upgraded at full price last month to do this, but am not sure how good a decision that was! The real unknown is how long we can keep it anyway......

Edit: in your original post you refer to a SIM card. AFAIK, the X2 doesn't have one so that shouldn't be an issue.
