About a year ago I converted to HPC as my primary home service solution and have encouraged virtually everyone I know to convert their home service to HPC--you can count me a big fan! Both call quality and low service cost are the big pluses for me.
While the HPC unit does include a backup battery for the unit, one issue remains a problem from my former land line phones which is: most cordless phones do not have any back up battery to maintain service during a power outage. Since I also have a VZW mobile phone this is not really a major issue--should the power go out I can always use my mobile smart phone. That's one solution-- but there are others!
Here are 3 solutions I have come up with to solve the power outage issue: 1) keep a corded phone plugged into the HPC unit--the corded unit does not need a battery backup to receive or place calls, 2) find a cordless phone that has a battery back up built in, or 3) get a Universal Power Supply (UPS). Since I already own a 4 phone DECT 6.0 cordless system I opted to purchase a UPS which provides about 8 hours of backup power.
If you decide you want a phone with backup power capability there are two models you may want to consider: 1) Clarity 2.4GHz Digital Cordless Amplified Telephone or 2) Panasonic KX-TG6672B (DECT 6.0). Either will work with the HPC but the 2.4GHz unit may conflict with microwave ovens and other 2.4GHz wireless equipment in your home. Should you want a UPS solution there are a host of options available from a number of manufactures including: APC, Belkin, Cyberpower, and Triplite. The lowest cost unit providing about 4 hours of backup power is from Cyberpower (model: Phone Saver CPS180PHV UPS). Information on all of these devices is available on the internet and the units are available from local retailers or warehouse clubs.
As I indicated above I am a fan of the HPC service and this posting is not an endorsement of any of the equipment or manufactures listed above. The solutions I have chosen for my solutions are those that are most practical for my needs and your solutions may be different. Use this information as a starting point for your own research.
If you find or develop any additional solutions not considered herein do take a few moments to share your findings.
