Eris random calls

My daughter's Eris frequently makes repeated random calls to numbers in her contact list. It will sometimes call the same number 15-20 times in a row, almost always at night while she's sleeping. I know she could just turn the phone off, but she uses it for an alarm clock and doesn't want to turn it off. Last night I was the lucky recipient, and had to turn my phone off! Any ideas?? Thanks.

When she is sleeping with the phone, is the display off? Is it in the bed with her, or on a nightstand/headboard?

This is an odd one

If it's on a night stand, it's not anywhere near a glass of water that might be sweating water near is it? (Careful on that one - I've had 3 phones over the years die a death from this one - Mine, my wife's and my daughters... You'd think ONE of us would have learned from the others... (In case you were wondering, I was the *second* one to get nailed by this...)

She leaves it on the nightstand, screen locked, no water or cats around. It doesn't do it all the time, just randomly, but when it does, it does it for multiple calls.

I told her to take the battery out for a few minutes, and if it continued, to take it back to the Verizon store. Don't know what else to do. It's only 3 months old.

has this started recently? did it occur after she downloaded a particular app? some apps require "phone access", and although this means they need it more for location, but a rogue app might, and i stress might because i am not a developer, accidently be making calls.
