over the limit notification

Has anyone else noticed that Verizon has stopped sending over-the-limit texts messages to your phone?

I was told they did it at 90%, then about 100%. They have done this for me for a couple of years, this past billing cycle they didn't and i assumed since i had not heard from them, i was not over the limit and didn't checked. Got stuck with an additional charge on my bill.

When I inquired about it, I was told they don't guarantee that they will send text message notifications.

Anyone else run into this?

Yes, we have the same experience. I set up the alerts as the account holder to be notified when my daughters would reach 75%, 90% and 100% of their limits. They did not send the notifications for the later 2 alert levels.

It appears they want me to pay the significant overage fees.

I will need to look into this.

Or you could use any of the following ways to monitor your own usage:

1.) www.vzw.com- Log in and check from any internet capable device.

2.) My Verizon Mobile- Free app on all smartphones that takes about 30 seconds to open and display data usage. Android devices are widget capable.

3.) #DATA (#3282)- dial this like a phone call and receive a free text message with your data usage.

Verizon does not hide your data usage from you and the make it very easy for you to check. If you are paying for it, you should be monitoring it. It is not Verizon's responsibility to make you aware of your usage. Besides, by the time you receive the alert message you probably have surpassed whatever milestone you are getting alerted about.

Yes, I do monitore this and wven paid the extra $5 per month to have "control" over the kid's phone usage. Here is the kicker that Verizon fails to mention. Even if you "disable" the texting and data capabilities on there phones, these measures will kot go into effect until the phone is shut down and rebooted. I did not know this and it was not written anywhere in guidance I have available to me. When was the last time you shut down your device for a reboot? Mine was about 1 week ago when the battery went to 0% when I forgot to charge it over night. Otherwise, I go weeks with out a shut down. My kids, never.

So, after I shell out $5 extra per month to monitor and control the activity of my kid's phones it is completely ineffective if they don't reboot. I still will pay the overages fees.

Yes, you will have to pay the overage.

IF the kids have android phones, they have a built in warning and cap in settings.

OPen settings, data usage, and check the box to limit data and set limits for warning and cap.

of course you still need access to turn this feature on.
