Charging the Eris

how long does it normally take for a completely dead Eris to charge back up via a/c adapter? got this Eris monday this wk, it charged fully in abt 3hrs the fist time. the phone has to be charged daily and every day, the indicator light stays on showing its charging and its been over 4hrs. on Tue, accidentally unplugged from wall. plugged back in, the indicator light shows still charging for abt 30 secs then the fully charge (green) light comes on. every day, i have noticed this...the light stays (orange, meaning its charging) but once i unplug from wall, it turns green after a few secs. sounds light a defective phone?

these smartphones are always going to comsume large amounts of power but you can eliminate some functions that will reduce power comsumption.

for the motorola droid, i deactivate the "background data" (this allows me to utilize the market place and receive updates. it also notes that by deactivating this, i WILL save battery power). i also shut off the "Use Wireless Location" and "Use GPS" when i am not using my GPS. i find i have good battery power for at least two days before recharging.

try and look for similar options on your Eris.

if these dont work, then check your a/c adapter. it might be defective before your phone is defective.

i took the phone back to VZW b4 i saw your post. they had no idea of this problem so they xchanged the phone. now this phone is doing the same thing...the orange light does not go out until i unplug & plug back in socket..then the indicator light turns green after a few seconds. checking the adapter was going to be my next step. however, i wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue w/ their Eris and should i worry about it. i've always been the type to never take a phone off the charger until it tells me its ready. with this Eris problem, the phone stays on the charger for hours (over 4.5hrs last night before i checked it). i think thats way too long. i'm still trying to condition the battery on this replacement phone but this doesn't seem to be the way. can someone plz advise? thanks.

I turn mine off at night before I go to bed (around 11:00 PM) and plug into my USB on my PC. Charge light is orange. When I get up in the morning (6:00 AM) the charge light is green. Unplug and power on...good for the day. Lather, rinse, repeat.

i know at times VZW reps will answer questions on this forum so hopefully one will see this post and respond. but of course, if anyone else knows, plz feel free to advise.

i called HTC re: the indicator light. they are wondering if its the wall adapter that's the issue since i'm having the same problem with the new phone. however, they will not replace the adapter b/c VZW did a phone exchange. think that's dumb since i've only had the phone 2 wks but i guess that;s their policy. i wanted to know b4 i go down to the very busy local VZW store to see whehter i stand a chance of getting the adapter switched out or does anyone think it could still be a device issue; did i get another bad one. the last phone wouldn't even hold the charge, but this new phone is doing great holding the charge once its completed. what i may do first, is try charging from the PC & see what happens. but still, any answers plz. thanks.
