Under parent's plan, wanting to start plan under own name with different service

Currently I am under my parent's plan.

I want to start my own plan under another service until I'm qualified to have my own plan with Verizon.

I need to start out under another service first because under my parents' plan I have exhausted the allotment 2 replacement phones under the insurance coverage in addition to other requirements I'll need to meet.

Question 1:

If I am under someone else's plan, will the person running the plan be charged a cancellation service fee for my number being cancelled? (They would still be paying or their number & a few other numbers under their name).

Question 2:

If there is a cancellation fee for each phone number under a family plan and I'd like to wait until my number's contract ends, instead of paying the service cancellation fee, what is the way to reduce the cost for this phone/phone number under the plan?

I'd like to reduce the monthly cost for this number since I am no longer able, wanting or needing to use this particular service and phone any longer. Should I just cancel the data plan on it? Are there any other charges I would be able to cancel for this number? I have the newest edition of a Motorola Razr & have unlimited data I believe

Each line has it own contract so each has it's own contract end date. So if you want to avoid the ETF then you have to wait until your contracts ends.

You can only remove the data plan if you remove the smartphone from the line and replace it with a basic phone. Also once you get rid of unlimited data you won't be able to get it back.

If you want to then reduce costs on that line, you could switch to a basic phone and drop the data; however, if you have unlimited data, you may want to see if someone else on your family plan wants to switch numbers with you to take advantage of the unlimited data ... once it's gone, it's gone forever. And, of course, any changes would have to be approved by your parents since they are the Account Owner.

First of all, your eligibility to have your own service has nothing to do with how many insurance replacements you have had under your parent's plan. Age is the only requirement Verizon has for you to start service with them. You may have to provide a security deposit if you have bad/no credit history, but I don't think this is different from any other provider.

Question #1: Only if there is still time left on the contract for your line. Smartphone ETF = $350 less $10 for each month of the contract you have already completed.

Question #2: Depends on your plan, but the best way to reduce costs is to switch to a basic phone without a data plan. If you are on the old Nationwide Family Share plan, this would make the monthly cost $10 + tax for the remainder of the contract. If you are on the new Share Everything Plan, your monthly cost would be $30 + tax for the remainder of the contract.

Depending on the length of time left and/or plan in effect, it may be less expensive to just pay the ETF.
