LG Spectrum - rejects software update & can't recognize when phone is horizontal

Anyone else with a Spectrum having an issue downloading the latest software update? When I try to download it I get an error (which, sorry I did not write down...and when I go to Software update again it will search for an update but then goes back to the menu and doesn't go any further).

Also, when I tilt my phone to text/Facebook/whatever horizontally, the display still shows horizontally - doesn't swap to the wider keyboard. I've powered down but have not removed the battery (which I will try shortly). Any suggestions? Thx.

Try a search of this community forum to see if anyone else had posted a similar problem with the LG Spectrum. I think there were a few discussion threads a month or so ago.
