Droid DNA Problem, No SIM card error

I recently upgraded my device to a Droid DNA from HTC. Every so often I get an error message that there is no SIM card in the phone, and I lose the ability to receive or make calls. Usually restarting the device fixes this. I find it obnoxious that I need to restart each day. Has anyone else been seeing this bug?

Exact same problem I'm having. I first thought it was related to a low battery but that isn't the case; my phone is doing this RIGHT NOW while charging. This is the third time it has happened since I bought the phone.

The other two times I've been able to fix this extremely troublesome error by putting my Droid DNA in Airplane Mode and then toggling Airplane Mode off again and it would be okay. This problem, however, is NOT okay.

Any others experiences? Solutions?

Same issue here. I restarted the phone the first time and it found the SIM. The next day it happened again, so again I restarted the phone, but this time it didn't find the SIM. So I pulled the SIM card out and put it back in and it has been fine since.

Now the phone is connecting to my home wifi network, but it isn't giving me any internet. I can find other devices on the network, but can't load any apps without going to 4G. Has anyone else had this problem? I really thought that I had found a great device, but it looks like HTC still can't get a phone right.

My spouse and I both have a Droid DNA, and they both had this problem. I popped out the SIM card on both, put them back in, and have not experienced the problem on either phone again.

Hi, I went into Verizon, and asked them to give me a new SIM card. This was last

week, Thursday I think, and it took about 15 minutes. So far I haven't seen the

issue again, and I have NOT rebooted my phone since then either! :smileyhappy:

I'd give it a shot if you are seeing this bug.

I had a similar SIM card error from day 1. Three SIM card replacements and one factory reset later, the helpful Verizon employees and I gave up and they shipped out a new replacement. When I personally switched the SIM over (previously a Verizon store person had done the switch), I noticed that there were three large full-length scratches across the SIM card which suggest that perhaps the phone was physically damaging the card. I am going to go into Verizon in the coming days to get a new SIM card and see if the new replacement DNA also scratches the SIM. Have any of you noticed similar damage? Perhaps that explains the errors. And, yes, a reboot, or going in and out of airplane mode generally fixed the problem for me as well (which had made me think this was a software issue until I saw the damage today).

I'm having the same problem. For me, I've been lucky so far. Airplane mode on/off solves it for me. I don't like that I don't know how long it's been disconnected.

Having the same problem has lead me to this forum. Before I venture off to the Verizon store, I figure I would try an online solution. I have ejected and reinstalled the SIM card. Looked as if the SIM Card was not perfectly seated. Waiting to see, if the problem returns. I have placed the DNA in sleep mode for over 20 minutes, which usually leads to the SIM card error and lost signal. So far so good. I'll follow up, if the problem returns.

This is a next day follow up. The SIM Card error and no signal issue was corrected as stated above. Give it a try.

I'm having the same problem. Ejecting and reseating the SIM card does not work for me as the problem will reappear later. Going into and out of airplane mode does not resolve the problem for me at all. The only thing that seems to work is re-booting the phone.

What I don't like about this is that this prevents you from calling 911.

I just got the Droid DNA about a week ago. From day two I started having this same problem with the phone saying there is not a SIM card, or it would say PUK sim card lock. Restarting the phone would usually fix the error, but that is a real pain to do a couple times a day, not to mention I am not in service when this happens and I have no idea how long it had been out of service. I took the sim card out, reseated it, put it back in. This fixed the error for about 3 days, then it started up again! I am so frustrated, I love this phone, but this problem is ridiculous for such a nice phone at the price they are selling it for. I suppose my next step is to go to Verizon and get a new SIM card, but I have my doubts that will completely fix the issue. It seems there is a design flaw with the hardware or software of the Droid DNA. I am still under my 14 day return time, but I don't know what other phone I would get to replace this one that would be as good. The DNA has a faster processor than any other phone they sell right now (except for the Samsung Note, which is WAY too HUGE!). So very frustrating.

I'm here to share another update. So far since I replaced the SIM with a new one

from Verizon, I have NOT experienced this bug again.

I recommend that you give it a couple tries, and ask the associates to be

careful when they break the SIM off the card, to not flex it too much.

My wife has had this phone 3 days and had to reboot it 3 times for this problem. This is NOT cool at all! I switched the airplane mode tonight and it got it back to good FOR NOW.

Adding another data point. I got my Droid DNA on 12/15. I've had the PUC error twice and the no SIM card error twice. Both rebooting and the airplane mode tricks worked as a temporary fix. I'll try reseating the SIM card tonight to see if that is a permanent solution.

I have a couple of posts above. Here is today's update. If I restart my DNA, I get about one day of usage until the No SIM Card error appears again. If I eject and reload my SIM Card, I get 3 days of usage before the error reappears. Today I got the PUK Code locked error. Exactly 3 days after my last SIM reboot. In order to get your phone going again, you have to call Verizon Customer support. They suggest that you reinstall the SIM Card. That fixed the problem. I am really good at thet now. I aked the Customer Rep, who was very helpful, about the No SIM Card error and after a discussion with her boss, she said that the SIM Card was OK and that they would authorize a brand new device as a replacement. That really surprised me. You have 14 days to get a new device. A litttle longer during the holidays. Otherwise you will get a refurbished phone. Although this is a pain, I really liike this phone. I hope this fixes the issue. I will report back in about a week.

Update:

After 3 SIM cards and a factory reset with the first DNA, the Verizon store

team and I gave up and had a new DNA shipped out. When I switched the SIM

from my old DNA to the new DNA I noticed that the SIM card had three large

scratches across it. This led me to believe that these errors were the

result of physical damage rather than a software problem. One day after

using the new DNA with the old SIM card, I received the same SIM card

error. Yesterday, I switched out the old SIM card for a new one. The new

DNA does leave three minor scratches on the new SIM, but not as severe as

those left on the old SIM by the original DNA. I am hoping this means that

the new phone is not causing the same physical damage that the original DNA

was causing. Thus far I have not received any SIM card errors, so I am

cautiously optimistic.

Will those of you who are still receiving the error please take a look at

your SIM cards to see if they are scratched? If so, please let the rest of

us know so we can determine if this a physical issue or a software one.

Reseating the SIM card didn't fix my problems. I'm headed to the Verizon store tomorrow to try to get a new phone and SIM card.

I have had the same problem. First I took it back and they said the SIM card wasn't installed properly(It came with the card already installed). It stopped the problem for about a week, then the same thing. I took it back again, and got a whole new SIM card. Worked fine for about two weeks. Now I'm getting the same error again. I keep restarting it which fixes is initially, but it always disconnects again. Very frustrated. I really want to keep this phone, but I'm not going to keep restarting it everyday.

I'm 7 days in since replacing the SIM card in the NEW DNA and no problems.

I am by no means no expert when it comes to the DNA nor phones in general,

but considering the old DNA was leaving large scratches on SIM cards and

the new one is not and is functioning as advertised, my advice to those of

you having the problem would be to check your SIM for significant

scratches; if they are there, your only permanent solution may be a new DNA

with a new SIM -- making sure, of course, to check that the replacement is

not also physically damaging the card.

I purchased my DNA 12/15, nothing but problems!

I just got off the phone with Verizon, it w I was told by tech support Verizon and HTC knows about the sim card problem and the first barrage of calls began coming in on 12/5. After being laughed at by the tech, she sent me to a supervisor that said "there are no known issues with the DNA and Verizon is not communicating with HTC". Let's just say things didn't go well from there... I also complained about the DNA's Bluetooth not linking with my 2012 Dodge Ram with Uconnect. Since Verizon edits what they don't want posted, I can't tell the rest. Just know they are selling the DNA and not advising consumers of the problems. Fox 4 News just emailed me back, they want to speak to me tomorrow. Everyone will know about these issues in the near future. I've been with Verizon for at least 10 years, I'm pulling out, going to Sprint.

I have posted a few responses to this issue. Here is my latest. T wo weeks ago I spoke with Verizon. The person was more than helpful. Verizon issued me a new phone and SIM card. The problem(s) have not returned.

I upgraded to a the HTC Droid DNA thus past Thursday in a Verizon Store. The rep put the SIM card in and activated the phone. It worked fine all day Thursday and most of the day Friday. Then Friday evening I was waiting for a call and when it didn't come I woke up my phone to see if I'd missed it. That's when I saw the no SIM card error message. I came to this forum, saw the offered fixes and tried rebooting the phone. Rebooting worked and all was well. Then I woke up this morning and the phone was giving the no SIM card error message again.

I see that others have fixed the issue by removing and reinstalling the SIM card. I've also noted the issue of scratches or marks on the SIM card. Instead of trying to remove it myself, I am just going to go into the Verizon store. Since the tech put it in and not me, I don't want to take any chance of Verizon claiming that, if there is any damage to the SIM card, the problem is somehow my fault, haha.

As others have stated, I really, REALLY like this phone and hope this isn't a persistent error. New SIM card, new phone...I don't really care. I just want to be able to continue to use this particular model of phone. I was torn between the DNA and the Note 2...I didn't min the screen size but the lower price and amazing screen sold me on the DNA. If this issue can't be fixed, I'd settle for the Note 2. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

If I get any "new" info on this issue at the Verizon store today, I'll be sure to post it here.

*****UPDATE*****

I just got back from the Verizon Store. I explained the problem and let them know that there was a thread here so mine was not an isolated event. The rep told me that the DNA came with pre-installed 4G SIMs and she'd seen this particular issue with other phones that came like that (she specifically mentioned the iPhone 5). She replaced the SIM and, voila, problem solved.

As some here have pointed out, the problem can seem solved and then return. I'll wait a few days to see if the problem comes back. If not, then it may be the case that pre-installed 4G SIMs are the culprit. That would explain the hit and miss nature of the problem to a degree. Perhaps some are being improperly installed. Perhaps some are being damaged during the installation. The former would explain why reseating or removing/reinstalling solves the issue, the latter would explain why replacing the SIM fixes the issue.

The rep also told me that she noted on my account that she replaced the SIM and that if the problem returned I should contact tech support an if they couldn't fix the issue, Verizon would simply replace the device.

If I don't post again, you can take that to mean that I've had no further issues. If I do post again...well, obviously that means their fix didn't work.

Not isolated is an understatement. I contacted HTC, they have no idea what the problem is, Verizon has no idea, but they continue to sell the phones.

Someone is going to be in a life or death situation and their DNA is going to fail. Unfortunately, this is what it will take for Verizon to do the right thing.

I havn't had the time to get to a store, but I'm getting my money back and going to Sprint. It's insane to think of how many issues I've had with Verizon in 12 years. A problem that will be fixed. Considering Verizon was aware of the failure 10 days prior to my purchase, I feel they should offer a month of free service for everyday. Maybe they just pay me for my time. I only spent 3.5 hours in the store...sorry, sorry, sorry is not enough.

To add yet another data point..

I first had the issue 4 days after receiving my phone, after a few days and two calls to tech support they sent me a new sim card. This resolved the issue for about 2 weeks. Just after Christmas I had the sim are error pop up again, and then PUK code locked error the following day, after talking with tech support they agreed to send me a new device.

I got the new phone last Thursday, and received the sim card error last night and again this morning. I talked to tech support last night and they agreed to send me a new phone again, once they received my original device that I shipped on Monday.

Working around the errors is not difficult, but they are not a solution to what is clearly an oversight in quality control. I love this Phone when it works, but this is my last shot before I run the issue to as many support managers as I can to get a better resolution.

dont feel bad, i got my dna on 12/14.. after not having a working phone for almost 6weeks. This was supposed to be all the answers to my problems. Yeah right. The no sim card error, no service, not syncing, backup assistant are all problems that verizon new about since launch in 11/12... However they did not bother to report it. So i bought my phone brand new and within 10 had to have it master reset but i was out of state so i couldnt go to the store i purchased it in. Then when i got home, i spent a week fighting with vzw techs and corp, so now instead of a new phone i have someone elses reject replacement. because it was over two weeks because they ignored me for a week. i spent 12hours trying restore my phone from a back up.. Only to find out after the fact, that vz server was down

last night Verizon told me they would swap the junk DNA for the new Samsung galaxy note two and when I went to the store to pick it up the store said no they called the consumer loyalty line the supervisor play the recorded call for all of us on my phone and the Verizon representative clearly stated they would swap the DNA for the Samsung and then Verizon backed out. I got all my money back today and I now have service with sprint. To hell with verizon!!!

yes, i have that problem, repeatedly, after my kid had a medical emergency did i realize i had no working phone. So my phone that had already been master reset on day 12 of having it, on day 21 was out of commission for 5hours. It took vzw 5days to replace it and then 9hours of myself troubleshooting to get the new one to activate. Still not working right, not impressed

same problem. shut it off and turn back on and it goes away. comes back again. eventually disappears for a few days then comes back. have missed important calls/texts from cops and witnesses when in court. problem needs to be solved.

I have the same issue. I contacted Verizon tech support. The level 2 tech advised me that this is a known issue and they are working on a fix. They had me remove the SIM card and blow out the drawer that it sets in. Since then I have not had to restart my phone for that error. I just wonder why Verizon is selling these phones with a known issue and not making the public aware. I hope everyone comes together and takes legal action against Verizon. They have a history of doing this, like the HTC Rezound, and Thunderbolt. I had an HTC Rezound and after being swapped out 5 or 6 times they finally allowed me an early upgrade. I paid for the DNA, and another known issue. I am still not in a better spot then when I had the Rezound and out the money as well.

Filling a complaint with the F.C.C. goes a long way when the carrier denies 911 access. I recommend it, from personal experiance.

Just thought I should add a another account of this problem. 1st off this is my second Droid DNA I got my first on Christmas Eve, 6 days later it turned into a paperweight on me in my pocket wouldn't do a thing, no charge light, no anything. So they replaced it and put this sim card in a new one and all was awesome until 2 days ago and I noticed the x over the signal strength meter and the exclamation over the sim card icon, so first thing I restarted and it worked just fine. Thought it was a random thing but went to bed and when the txt I was expecting did not come when it was supposed to I noticed again it had decided to not see the sim. Restarted a few times and nothing so I powered off and back on and that did the trick. Tonight it did one better and gave me the puk code lock error when I checked it after watching a movie. Powering off and on again left me with the same error so I removed the card then powered off and back on then put the card back in and a little over 2hrs later after looking up the puk code and doing a screenshot of it and the sim card # I've finished reading this extremely long thread. So I guess I get to see how long my reseat fix works and if it's only a 3 day fix or I get lucky and it's permanent. Hoping on the latter but I guess time will tell. I'm going into Verizon tomorrow though to let them know and have them note the fact I did have this problem as of 2 days ago and was in the store about it on tomorrow's date and time.

I'll try to remember to post back on this after awhile if it turns out to be a more permanent fix and will for sure if it doesn't, or find some awesome resolution at the store tomorrow, but if I hear nothing astonishing and don't remember and by chance forget to post back ......remember that no news is good news .

P.S. It started jumping around the txt on me when I tried to edit the above and add this so not fighting it and just adding a reply instead. I've been doing computer repair for longer than I care to think about and know a thing or 2 about how some of the hardware and software work together to achieve an outcome. That said I did not think to examine the sim card when I reseated it my focus was on getting it to recognize it, but it is a sim card just like the older digital camera memory and in order to read a card with it's memory on the face of itself it must make contact with the pins in the device it's being inserted into since it's a slot that you must push it into it will leave scratches on the card it is the nature of the beast the more times it's removed and inserted the more prominent the scratches will be. Show me a device that does not leave at minimum light scratches overt time on a card similar (xd, sd, mini-sd, micro-sd, sim) and I'll show you a device that never reads it. Just food for thought not saying excessive scratching is not a bad thing or that there isn't a quality control issue but my guess is it's a firmware/driver issue that is hopefully addressed in the next update.

HTC has no idea what the problem is. I have spoke to their tech support 5 times and they have made it crystal clear its very questionable when or even if there will be a fix. On top that Verizon lies!

They knew about the problem on the 5th of December but refuse to disclose the problem to consumers. .. another reason I walked after 13 years and went sprint

Apologize for going slightly off topic but in some aspects it's related to a few of your posts regarding hoping to other providers. I do realize some of you have your reasons for leaving to which I can't blame as I wasn't in your shoes. Unfortunately I've been with all the other name brand carriers when I first started. More recently briefly with T-Mobile for a business phone and their coverage just stinks. Unfortunately I can never recommend Sprint to anyone ever. I like you with Verizon have history with both AT&T and Sprint which has cost them my business forever. AT&T tried to tell me I spent $1100 in calls in one month when I didn't I had maybe 7 people I even knew the number to back then and there's just no way. Sprint had great coverage even in Mexico which 10 years back I found pretty cool...never used it though but the tool that stole my car sure as hell did. I had a $150 limit on my phone placed there by Sprint when I hit it the phone was shut off no matter what. I was told that though slim there was a chance if they used it they could track it. I called Sprint and told them everything and asked if they could could cut off roaming and they said no (bs because I had to call them to get it turned on in the first place) so I double checked and asked if my account limit was still in place and it was and I double checked again that my phone would be turned off when I hit that amount and again was told yes ($150 I could live with if it might get my car back). However this was not the case and received a bill from them for over $1450 to which I told them I have a copy of my contract in black and white and a recorded phone call on their system asking their agent about this also confirming my account limit and they couldn't give a hoot and said it's not our fault there was a delay receiving the info....anyway after like 6 months fighting them I left and went to Verizon and haven't looked back for 10+ years. They've given me the best customer service so far and I'll be hard pressed to change, my point is they all have their demons in the closet just a question which ones you mingle with best.

I understand what your saying, I too have been with T mobile and Sprint. Currently we have 4 lines with Verizon and have been with them for over 13 years. I don't want to leave, but I am so tired of them selling phones with known issues, and in some cases issues that prevent access to 911 which is a direct violation of F.C.C. regulations and nothing being done about it. My latest issue is this. I had a HTC Rezound that I bought about a year ago. I kept having connection issues and they replaced the phone about 6 times. Finally a level 3 tech was able to authorize an early upgrade and paid for the HTC DNA. The reason I bought the new phone was because the Rezound had a known issue and Verizon didn't know know when it would be resolved. Mind you I paid over $300.for that phone, then paid almost $250.00 for the DNA which is being sold with this known issue of the SIM card error that is stopping some people to access to emergency services. Something is very wrong that a company can get away with this. Not to mention forcing long term customers off the unlimited data. It's just not right

Oddly . I have had the phone since launch day . Been VERY happy with it . For what ever reason for the last 2 days I have started receiving the no SIM card error . Can't quite figure out why or what caused it ? I mean why going a few months running perfect, what te hell would cause it to just start

Verizon told me to take the SIM card out and blow out the slot and make sure the gold part on the card was clean and don't touch the gold with your fingers and re insert. I don't get the error anymore but my network and phone calls are still an issue

another disappointed dna owner here. has anyone actually had some sort of positive resolution? i pre-ordered mine before it came out, received it right before thanksgiving, and the problems didn't start showing up until about mid december. by then it was too late for verizon to do anything...well, they refused to do anything. i've talked to in-store reps and tech support via phone, they all conceded that this is a known problem with the dna. however, the feeling i get is that either they are in that limbo state of "still gathering info and not quite taking it serious enough" or flat out denying and refusing to do anything to fix the problem. again, in-store reps have told me that the main complaint on the dna is the sim-card/puk code problem, so i believe it is a known problem.

i don't know what to do. we signed a two year contract to continue paying verizon at least $100 a month for services their product cannot provide. i've talked to some very nice techs on the phone, they sympathize, but there's nothing they can do without the approval of someone higher up. is there really nothing we can do? if the less-than-two month old phone verizon sold me to work on their network is not working, do i really have no recourse?

me so far . I'm still a happy DNA owner thanks to HtC Verizon is just

I have as I stated in my response. Called Verizon. They remotely tested my phone. They said you need a new one. I got the replacement and all has been fine for over a month. I thought Verizon was great.

I have had the same error.....I bought the DNA on the day it came out.....within 3 weeks, I got the SIM card error. Verizon in store tech did a master reset. It happened again within a week. The next in store tech replaced the SIM card. Same error message later that day. They finally replaced my phone. That was 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I got the same SIM card error. I removed the SIM card and put it back in. The error came back tonight. Did the same thing. Hoping it will not come back again, but doubtful. If this is a well-known problem, Verizon ABSOLUTELY has to do something about it!!!!

Leave Verizon and go to sprint I did after being with them since 2003. Verizon screwed me over so bad! All those years all the way back the days of mega roaming charges when I was paying 700 bucks a month for service due to my business. Verizon can kma and they will never see another dime of my money. We will go to court over my last bill. Let them pay a high dollar attorney to meet mine...

Ok so I guess my reseat fix lasted for 6 days cause it did it to me again this afternoon. I didn't power off or restart the phone I simply popped the sim out partially and put it back in. I just carry the sim tool in my wallet now so I have it if it flips out on me while I'm out somewhere. We'll see how long it lasts this time.

I have heard some really good things about it, but I have been an HTC fan for awhile. It's like Verizon told me " All phones have issues, it just depends on how bad the issue is" I do know the note II screen display isn't as good as the DNA and it does not have the wireless charging like the DNA, but it does have more memory and battery life is good. Since I don't own a Note II I really can't speak to how it is or if there are any issues with it.

Read the fine print of your contract, you will find that you cannot start a class action law suit against Verizon. If that was possible I would be. Verizon knows about this issue and is still selling the phone which means they have no concern about the public's safety. If people that post on here are accurate this issue can prevent access to 911. I have not experienced that issue, but have been unable to place calls even with a full set of bars. I wish legal action could be taken.

Class action is for individuals without the abilty to absorb the costs. I have the resources and I am using them. Mine has nothing to do anyone else.

Hi There,

Well it seems that the SIM card issue is a real hardware defect in the fact that when the SIM is inserted it must be absolutely perpendicular to the slot. If angled even slightly, a minimum of three parallel scratches with be scribed into the gold flat connects. It seems the phone's hardware slot is too close with these sharp points touching the gold contact flats. Be sure that when the new SIM is being installed by Verizon Personel that they do so with utmost care so as not to recreate the problem on your next SIM. The SIM must be fully inserted and care taken to not loosen the SIM...i.e. drops, etc. Hope this helps for you, as it has for me.

Mine is at the point where it is giving the sim card error roughly 10 times a day. Sometimes a reboot doesn't even help, it turns back on the with sim card error already there. AND I PAID FULL PRICE FOR THIS DAMN PHONE SO I COULD KEEP MY UNLIMITED DATA. I am going into Verizon tomorrow to try getting a new card. If the problem continues, I will be walking into Verizon with my DNA in pieces and switching back to ATT.

Ok to all on here . I had a good lengthy conversation with HTC about 2 weeks again regards to this issue cause I had an actual emergency and couldn't use my phone . They said there is a software fix in the works but the solution that seems to fix it now is as follows . I did this and have NOT had a single issue since . Remove and reset the sim the card . Go under settings - battery and turn OFF fast boot . Restart device . From what they said is its a memory register issue where the sim controller gets locked up in memory if the phone is properly shut down and restarted on a regular basis . Evidently a programming issue due to the large 2 gig of ram . By shutting off fast boot it doesn't save the old connection certificates and always verifies network connection as opposed to holding and reusing network information .

I went to Verizon today and tried a new SIM card even know some are saying

its been confirmed a software issue. My phone was locking out 10+ times a

day so I was desperate. We will see what happens.

I don't think it is as widespread as I originally thought. I've been to two

different stores now and nobody in either store has heard about the issue

before.

I'm having this same problem with my DNA that I purchased in early December. In the past 24 hours, I've gotten the SIM card error problem 6 or 7 times. Putting the phone into airplane mode and back out of it seems to temporarily fix it (and it's faster than rebooting), but sometimes the phone gets stuck on "turning on..." airplane mode, and I end up having to reboot anyway. I've reseated the SIM card several times now, and that doesn't seem to fix it. This is very frustrating since I don't know WHEN it starts having SIM problems, which means I may lose access to my phone (e.g., miss important phone calls and texts) without knowing it for 30-45 minutes until I check the phone. UGH!

Only known fix is to take phone in to replace SIM card. Verify perpendicular insertion of card and fully seated. Do not remove new SIM Card if at all possible, as this would scratch the new SIM CARD; placing you right back where you started with another damaged SIM CARD. This fix has worked for me but remember that the SIM CARD HAS TO BE PERPENDICULAR TO THE SLOT WHEN BEING INSERTED. Good luck.

I purchased my first DNA on Black Friday 2012. Within the first 3 days of activating the phone I began experiencing issues with the No SIM card error. I took it to the wireless store and he "fixed" it. Within 30 min. it happened again. Took it back and "fixed" it again. Within the first 2 weeks it went out at least 15 times. Most times shutting off and rebooting resolved the issue until it wanted to go out again. Finally, I went back and requested a new phone. Verizon did give me a new phone but with the same results. I can just finish a phone call and look down and the icon is at the top with no service and the No SIM card error displayed. Now I have to eject the SIM card and reinstall it for it begin working without the error. Getting tired of having to constantly check to see if my phone has service. This was definitely not what I signed up for. Any suggestions or permanent fixes available?

Got the phone two weeks ago - sim card issue the next day. Didn't think anything of it, restarted the phone and error disappeared. Two saturdays later, issue comes back and a restart wasn't guaranteed to get rid of the error, and if it did, the phone would only work for 10 sec to a min before the error came back.

Got a new sim card and the error went away...for a day. Right before my two week trial period was up, I got a brand new dna, thinking that i was just unlucky (since my buddy got the same phone with 0 issues). That was two days ago. Today, i got the same error.

So, if you're keeping count at home, in two weeks, i've had 4 new sim cards and two new phones. I've tried all the tips to remove the error (http://www.andromods.com/bugs-issues/htc-droid-dna-no-4g-sim-card-problem-locked-puk.html), but nothing's worked.

Further, the verizon staff was useless, aside from replacing the sim card. They've never heard of this issue, and when i said that it's all over the internet, their response was "well, all phones will have issues. And if you think about it, internet chatter only happens when there's negative stuff to say about the phone". wtf.

That makes sense. I didn't know what fast boot was, but I put my dead phone on the charger and it was instantly on with the sim card error, thank you for letting us know.

To everyone else, rather than restarting your phone, or pulling out your sim card (which adds to the scratching issue), you can just hold the power button until the power down menu comes up, and chose airplane mode. It just powers down the wireless components which clears the memory issues with fast boot. Then just wait a few seconds and then turn airplane mode back off. I haven't timed it, but it seems a lot faster than waiting for it to completely restart.

So the new SIM card worked for about a week and a half. It started again. A

woman at Verizon told me it is a software issue that we need to wait for an

update to be sent out. Everybody at HTC who says they don't know anything

about the problem, well this is all "cover your ***". They know their is a

problem but if they admit it, and say they don't know what's causing it,

they could be financially obligated to refund people. So by not

acknowledging that there is a known issue takes the microscope off them.

This is complete ********. My last phone was HTC and it was a <Deleted>. I told myself I would never buy an HTC phone again. When I saw this

phone come out, I was so impressed that I went against my word. But I can

guarantee that HTC will never see a <Deleted> penny of my money again!

Went to Verizon this weekend. After a couple of weeks with no problem it started happening constantly. Switched off mid-call with my parents. Talked to guy at Verizon who said he had not heard of any problems with DNA and sim card error. Did say that sim card was preloaded and they do have problems with those from time to time. Replaced the sim card and told me if it happens again come in immediately because it must be the phone and they would replace it. So far 3 days and no problem. We'll see...

I love how the VZW Moderator will edit these posts but no moderator will reply to us as to whats going on with this issue and this is a major issue with a flagship phone. I'm on my 3rd DNA now and the sim card issue is still happening with my latest handset. I have done everything and anything to correct this issue but with no luck.

VERY DISAPPOINTING VZW (especially for the so called largest and best cell phone company in the USA)!!!!!! Can we please get some answers here???????

This isn't Customer Service, it's a peer-to-peer forum. The Moderators are here to keep things in order and ensure we all are following the forum's Terms of Service ... they aren't Customer Service Reps or Tech Reps. Verizon reps do occasionally pop in and respond, but it's sporadic and usually days or weeks (if ever) after a post is left.

I understand just venting I guess. Have already emailed them directly and just sick of going to a VZW corporate store to get new sim card and/or phone replaced (On my 3rd DNA now). Hopefully a fix happens soon with this issue.

Ok, good news for me. My 3rd DNA started to get the no "sim card" error again like every DNA I have owned. Went to a corporate store and complained again, after about 1hour of haggling with the CS rep I got to speak with a store Mgr where she finally pulled up all of my past experiences, calls to customer care, visits to the 2 different stores about my DNA and she finally made an exception for me and they bought back my DNA for $250(which is weird since I only paid $200 when I upgraded) and then retro'ed my upgrade status so I could use it for another device. I got a Note2, had to pay the difference of about $100 to get it but I walked out of the store a happy VZW customer. I say give it a try yourself and fyi the Note2 is absolutely awesome device and I should have gotten it to start off with........ I encourage anybody else on this thread to go to your local corporate store and do what I did but be calm in how you go about doing it and show your aggravation do not explode at them with anger b/c it's really not their fault and hopefully you will be taken care of just as I was. I really gotta give VZW major props in this situation as they ended up handling it very good and made me a happy customer.

Hope you all have the same luck as I did......

After posting over a week ago, I read most of the posts and came across post #66 by Sith77. HTC advised to turn off the fast boot. Since applying, I have not had an issue in over a week(knock on wood). Still waiting for an official cause and fix to be put out by HTC/Verizon. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, I would be that lawsuit if I were interested in suing. I lost the use of my legs last Wednesday due to spinal damage, and was unable to call 911 to get an ambulance. I got through for a moment, but was cut off by the SIM card error. I had to crawl across the floor to get to a computer and get on Google Chat to ask a friend to call for help for me.

Really horrible that I had to get put through this traumatic experience because somebody at HTC or Verizon decided they didn't want to pay for quality control.

most of us having this shit issue. self-fish service providers both HTC n Verizon. they are just protecting their business and ignoring customer satisfaction.

I strong recommend that we group together and quit Verizon at same day. that may to they take it serious n real consider what customers want.

Following up again...A couple of weeks ago, Verizon pushed out a software fix thats seems like it is supposed to address this issue. http://support.verizonwireless.com/system_update/droiddna.html "Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update, 2.06.605.1 710RD, for your Droid DNA. Improvements have been made to SIM card detection." I have not had any issues since this update.

I've contacted VZ and HTC each 2x via phone/email. Got some Cache partition steps to take in an email response which didn't work. I had the SIM replaced twice by the unimpressive staff at the Verizon Store and now I have a refurb on its way to me after calling tech support and demanding it. This has all been going on for 5 of the 6 months I've owned the phone. And oh yes, the OTA update....kept me problem free for about two weeks. I'm shocked by the amazing lack of ownership on this issue from both HTC and Vz. Fix the damn phone guys OR pull it off the market! Its unsafe to be carrying a phone that randomly drops off the network!

I've had the phone since shortly after release date with the same issues.Currently #5 is on its way to me. I've swapped SIM cards,cleaned them, made sure they seated well, reset the phone, swapped phones, blah blah blah.

Sadly the ONLY thing I can do is handle it with asurion as one of my phones cracked and had to be replaced. All they will do is send me replacement.

Does anyone have any a suggestion for me??
