Have a droid. I can hear people on calls but they can't hear me. The mute button is off. Anyone have any simalr problems and how to resolve? thanks

My droid went about a month before I started having this problem. It has gotten progressively worse. Today, I finally went to the Verizon store and I was finishing up a call outside the door and I got "I can't hear you!?!?!" and I ran in to show it to the staff but my callee had hung up before they could see it. Long story short, they gave me another phone. I don't think it is a new phone. Now I'm trying to recreate what I had on that phone. The guy said that once I logged into Google I would get "everything back" . What does that mean? I am afraid it doesn't mean what I want it to mean.
