I'm currently in a Family Plan that has two basic phones (Lines A and
and two smart phones (Lines C and D). The two smartphones (Lines C and D) are "Grandfathered" in with Unlimited Data. On this current plan two phones are eligible for upgrade; Basic Phone (Line A) and My Smartphone (Line C).
Of course I want to upgrade my phone to the new iPhone 5; and i understand one way to "keep" my unlimited data I would have to pay a non subsidized price and an early upgrade fee,
***BUT*** (*Note* this is where I need some feedback) Couldn't I just purchase the iPhone 5 using Basic Phone (Line A) since it's eligible for an Upgrade; pay the subsidized price (i.e $299.99) and pick the lowest individual data plan ( $30 for 2GB Data), and when the phones ships have the iPhone 5 switched to My Smartphone (Line C) that has unlimited data and Reactivate (Line A) with a Basic Phone therefore cancelling out the Data plan that was originally purchased.
Only drawback I see is that Basic Phone (Line A) which used the upgrade for the iPhone 5, is entered into contract for two more years without the possibility of an upgrade.
