Poor Call Sound Quality On Motorola Razr M

I have a lot of static when talking on my Razr M. It doesn't occur every time, but it seems to be getting more frequent. The speaker seems to be fine because people say my voice sounds great, but I can hardly understand what they are saying. As a result of reading other posts, I started my phone in safe mode to see if an application was causing it, but it was the same ( static was still there). Any suggestion for what I should do now?

Static isn't fun for anyone! Let's look in this together. It may be an application that is causing this issue. Please power the device down then remove and reinsert the Sim card. Thanks for the reply, Joel. My sound has been OK for the last few days. I am now wondering if it is my network extender not functioning properly at times causing poor sound quality. If I have the problem again, I will check other phones in the house to see if they have similar problems.
