Requesting a custom phone number -- Ported?

Hello, All-

Hypothetically, if I could get a T-Mobile customer to agree to drop their phone number, could I pick up that number and port it to my Verizon phone?

There is a local T-Mobile phone number in my area with the perfect digits to letter-affiliate my company name to this number. i.e. Company Name: Company = Phone number: XXX-266 7269. So you could spell out "company" on the keypad to dial the number.

Anybody have any ideas how I could do this? I understand, obviously, I would have to talk the T-Mobile customer in to relinquishing their number but assuming I could get them to accommodate, would I then have to activate a T-Mobile account and request that number, then port that number to a Verizon account and close the T-Mobile account?

If anyone has any thoughts on this, I'd like to hear them.

Once a number is cancelled. It is held inactive for about 6 months. But the number would be retained by TM, unless you did what Jim suggested.

I am guessing you do not know this person with this, 'Perfect Number'
