Insurance Deductible

$7 a month and there is still a $100 deductible! Unbelievable. My daughter shattered her screen, and even though I have already paid over $49 in premiums, it's still another $100 out of pocket. Dropping the insurance and taking the phone in to have it replaced for $50. I've always been leery about insuring products through the company that sells them... now I know why.

The majority of insurance works that way - you pay your premiums, and have a deductible to pay when and if you file a claim. If the cost of the premiums and the deductible don't make sense to you, then drop the insurance; it's totally optional!

When my daughter first got her iPhone, we carried the insurance for about 6 months, then dropped it and figured she would just buy a used one or go back to an older phone if something happened. On all our other phones, we do not have the insurance and choose to save the cost of it each month and just buy a new phone if needed.

Understood. We bought the phone and signed up for the insurance at a VZW store and he simply must have forgotten to mention the high deductible. I can understand a $50 deductible that jumps to $100 or $150 after you submit a claim. I guess it pays if you have a tendency to lose/damage your phones frequently.

The amount of the deductible (and the monthly premium) is based on the type phone you have, and it's spelled out in the brochure about the coverage by Asurion. And I think it also states that you are limited to 2 claims within a 12 month period, so the deductible does not go up, you just run out of claims you can make in a year. When we looked at the cost vs the benefits, for the phones we had, we dropped it, and only added it back for the first few months my daughter had her iPhone.

I bought a refurbished Samsung stratosphere for $49 and bought the Asurion insurance. The screen cracked and now they want $100 deductible to replace a $49 phone! Talk about a ripoff! They don't mention that when they sell you the phone. They quietly take your money and then ask for more!

This is a old thread. It is in the insurance documents, not on the sale of the phone.

Read the insurance program papers and it clearly states the sliding device deductible so you have no one to blame for not reading what you purchased.

Exactly, it clearly mentions REPLACEMENT of your phone. Just give me what I got before that's all. Nothing is specified about upgrading otherwise we would not have bought the insurance. Interesting how they mention they could replace your new phone with a refurbished one but when you just want a refurbished one they only have new, Funny how it works in THEIR favor, isn't it?

That is how it always works. But the insurance brochure does state they can replace it with a like device or comparable device, second hand of course. On my home owners insurance full replacement cost is for brand new or better.

What a difference.
