Advice, anyone?

I got my Eris right after it came out. I went to the verizon store to replace my dead Blackberry curve, and they talked me into trying the droid. It took a little while to get used to, and overall has some great features, but I've continually had problems simillar to the ones a few other users have reported- freezing, trouble with the touch screen, phone functions, etc. I've been trying to stick it out, in the hopes that 2.1 would solve some of these issues, but now my employer has changed over to email to an enterprise server. Although the phone supports exchange, my lovely company does not support andriod. On further investigation, the ONLY thing they support is Blackberry. I have my IT guy trying to find a work around for the email, but it's not looking good....

So, what are my options? Verizon initally told me that they only thing I could do was pay full retail price for a new phone. Recently, they've offered me the "one-year upgrade price" for a new phone, but it would still be about $200 for the tour or $250 for the storm 2 AFTER a $100 rebate. One of the verizon reps actually suggested I try getting a phone on ebay! I actually think I like the storm 2- I know the first one was awful, but if I'm going to go back to a blackberry, I like the larger screen, and I'm used to typing without a keyboard from the Eris. Any recommendations? Should I wait and see if my IT department and 2.1 come through for me, or give up and start over?

Check out the web site phonescoop.com .Great site. You can look up any phone like the Storm 2. You can look at what features and specificaitons it has. If you click the review tab you'll read reviews from p eople that have/had the phone. You can read the pros/cons too. Coming from me, I think the Storm 2 is quite a great phone compared to the original Storm.

I can tell you that 2.1 will most likely not address your company's concerns. In general, the reason so many companies won't allow Android users to set up mobile mail is that the Android has no support for security policies. See, if your Blackberry gets lost or stolen, your company generally has a security policy in place on your phone that allows them to remotely wipe all of the data from the phone, thereby keeping the bad nasties of the world from reading your company's newsletter and all of the forwarded crap about cute kittens and funny Jay Leno video clips your coworkers keep sending you that you wish they wouldn't.

Unfortunately, the Android OS doesn't allow this. So if your Eris is lost or stolen, all of that valuable company information, like Jim's 10th anniversary in the receiving department, and how the Newark facility is switching toilet paper vendors, is totally out there for the whole world to see! Imagine the horror!

Of course, I'm being sarcastic here, but that really is the reason that most companies don't allow Android OS on their Exchange servers. I work in IP Engineering for my company and I can't even use mine, and in speaking with my colleagues at various other companies the same holds true for them. :smileysad:
