It has all the things I like including no slider , faster CPU , super thin and sexy , OLED high-res screen.
Not to mention a newer version of Android than we have (2.1) I bet it will have BT voice dialing too ; ) Google would`nt screw that up like Moto did.
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/12/12/nexus-one-google-phone-picture/
And I can almost guarantee you the battery cover wont fall off and the camera will take better quality photos ; )
a voice-to-text feature is supposed to let you dictate emails and notes by speaking directly into the phone.
no, but i do on the other hand feel burned that the nokia x10 will be out as well as the HTC Dragon/passion/bravo (1ghz qualcom processor) will be coming out. but then again your probably going to be looking at 500+ min for these phones.
I returned my MotoDroid hoping for this new phone to come out. Didnt like the physical keyboard. If i dont see it coming to Verizon, i will feel burned!!!
I have my fingers crossed...hopefully the HTC PassionC (CDMA?) will be here next month
I love my DROID...esp. since it is on the best network. But honestly , I only use the slider for games occasionally (D-pad)
Google is supposed to directly sell a CDMA version at some point. I bet they subsidize it somewhat also.
The next step is you only will need a data plan , and with Gizmo5 which Google bought , you will make low-cost or free calls over VOIP thanks to Google.

Not at all. Very much like the myTouch, the Droid is a sturdy long lasting piece of hardware. I'm happy with mine, and if the GPhone does come out in the future -- I can way for my NE2 to buy another Android phone they'll release that'll be better
Nope I very much don't feel burned cause I don't see a need to be on a GSM network either one of them. Especially with the replacement next year. I'll be fine till my NE2 when I get a phone with a dual core processor and thought to type. LOL.
No, not at all.
If you are constantly waiting around for the next great thing, you never get anywhere. Take what you can get, when you can get it, and upgrade later if it's really THAT much better.
I'm happy to have had an Android phone now for a little over 2 months in total, and look forward to what will be available about this time next year.
Pretty sure the Nexus One will be GSM only. CDMA is going to be dead anyway when they go to LTE.
GSM based systems are the standard around the world, not CDMA.
It will probably support all the Tmobile and AT&T freqs in a single version of the phone.
Not burned, but very warm and fuzzy.
My DROID, is an experience we have just begun what will be long and happy relationship, even when the road is bumpy and problems arise.
I walked into the DROID with my eyes wide open and the knowledge that with technology if I purchase a deivce in the morning someone will release an improved model in the afternoon.
The cutting edge moves at lightening speed.
No i dont feel cheated because its the same phone as the droid except for no keyboard. The software is practically identical. The droid is fast enough so i dont think the snapdragon is going to make that much of a difference. I mean really, how fast do you want your phone to be? The droid is too fast for me now and don't forget about android 2.1. When that is released, it will be like getting a new phone all over again. Don't forget this phone has got so much support behind it that it is not even funny. So you will see more updates, more changes and way better apps in the future.

1700mhz so Tmobile only or at least in its current form.

Not to mention that with the sales of the Droid which by all indications has been pretty darned good the attention Android is getting will just further the development and progress that much faster. The fact that the Droid got a Vanilla unmodified version of the Android OS means that we will likely get updates much faster. That is a very good thing. By the 2 year mark we may not be getting updates anymore but it will be time for us to start being frustrated again.
I do feel burned. Even though I just picked up the Eris last week, I love 96 out of 100 things about, and those 4 things were things that the rumored HTC Dragon/Nexas1 would have fixed.
Like I said, love my Eris but would have been evenhappier with the Dragon.

Forgetting the small grammar mistakes, take whatever you just said, And type in any Phone/Manufaturer and anyone can say that. Fact is the Nexus is gonna be out and a few months later a better phone will come out. It's still Android Bare bones, so you'll get the same functionality -- heck you'll even get that update (Flan 2.1). But, you just have to be satisfied with what you have now.
I wouldn't say burned since I didn't pick anything up yet, but quite agitated. I saw the pictures back in October and I held tight, only to find out it's going somewhere else. Crap. Didn't like the Droid and I don't want a keyboard. Love the Eris in most part because I love HTC's build and their Sense UI, but 3.2" is just too small of a display size, plus HVGA isn't good enough. I want an HTC high-end Android phone, no keyboard, with a screen size in the 3.7" or so range with WVGA resolution. Thought this was coming in the near future based on rumor mill, but clearly what I thought was Verizon-bound is not. Love everything about the Nexus One except the lame duck mobile provider. Keep waiting, I guess.

I do however need to mention that when you say things like "Forgetting the small grammar mistakes" it is somewhat annoying. I don't believe that people come on here to be corrected about their grammar. Most people are on here looking for advice or sharing their experiences. Nothing more, nothing less. I may be alone in feeling this way, but felt the need to say it. Please just stick to advice. There is no need to disparage people.

Snorkel, you need to get your tech facts straight. CDMA isn't dead, its what all 3G is based on.
ATT and TMO, etc, use WCDMA for their 3G service. Verizon and Sprint use EVDO (a different type of CDMA).
LTE is an advanced form of CDMA based on OFDMA.
At the 3G level its no longer GSM vs CDMA, its one flavor of CDMA vs another.
GSM - which is the old GPRS and EDGE stuff - is based on TDMA (time division instead of code division) and it just can't give you the data speeds that CDMA based systems can.
BufBarnaby:
No. I gave up feeling burnedwhen I bought my 4th Moto brick phone in 1996 and the Star Tac came out a month later. Droid Eris is just fine, hopefully better with the coming updates. You can't afford to keep "The Latest Thing". (Almost) No one can.
Supitsmike:
Yer posting style is just fine, keep it up. The truth has a bad habit of hurting.

a.k.a. Droid 2
So what are the chances that there will be a CDMA version of the Nexus One coming to Verizon? These (so far) rumors keep coming up. The phone looks quite promising, though I wonder about battery life on it. (Also, I prefer the black casing of the Eris if we are just talking looks).
If the Nexus One comes to Verizon (I hope it does, and soon!), I believe it would do very well - not everyone wants a keyboard, so this would broaden the offerings Verizon brings to the market.
I do find it odd that Google made this phone (which I admittedly haven't studied much, and therefore haven't found a reason to get really jazzed about) with a GSM radio, unless it was a nod to T-Mobile for some reason. AT&T certainly isn't throwing much support behind Android and Verizon has. In spades. Perhaps Google, like a lot of phone makers, I suppose, are waiting on the LTE roll-out.
Eh? Or all wet?

ROFLMAO.
You're under the impression that the Motorola Calgar/Devour is the "Droid 2?"
First, lets dissect as to the reasons why your **bleep**umptions are incorrect:
{please keep your posts courteous}
{please keep it relevant}
@GeriO: Thanks, you QT.<3
Personally I would have rather had the Calgary. Simply because it would have been free for me after all the NE2 and all that. I got the Droid and I am more than happy with it but there are somethings that are somewhat lost on me really and I would have been fine with a lower end phone. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't trade the Droid for a Calgary or whatever it will be called but I like its keyboard much better and it will be cheaper. Oh well but that **bleep** phone has been kicked around for ever if it ever actually gets released it will crack me up.
I am available to upgrade next month. I was originally thinking (back in November) of upgrading to the Omnia II, as I was not that impressed with the Moto Droid (or Motorola in general after my short lived Razr experience). I absolutely love HTC, but the Eris is lacking in some major departments. Granted, for $99, it's more than worth it to deal with a less than stellar screen, lack of flash, Cupcake, slower performance, etc. But in all honesty, I'd rather pay the extra money to get a phone that I'm satisfied with (or satisfied with for eight months, until I am bored with it and wanting something new.).
Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe we are able to get the Nexus One in it's current state and I have no interest in hopping providers every time a new phone comes out that Verizon cannot or will not add to their network. I am far more interested in knowing if the HTC Passion/Dragon/Bravo is coming to the Verizon network. Oh. My. God. I will hold out as I can, dealing with my buggy/glitchy Omnia if I know we are actually getting that phone!! But, yes I would feel completely miffed if I get the Eris because the Passion goes to T-mobile and then we suddenly get the Nexus One.
I'[m with you. I don't change my phone every six months just to be sure I have the latest thing.
Well it's no longer coming soon...it's here...at least for T-mobile. Verizon is supposed to get it soon too. I wouldn't say I feel burned but seeing as I got my Droid less than a month ago I have some "buyer's remorse" now. Especially if it doesn't get Android 2.1 soon and the Nexus One turns out to be as great as advertised, without the Droid's shortcomings.

You realize that the Droid and Nexus are near identical in specs aside from the processor, right?
And that we'll be getting Apps2SD soon, right?
And that We're getting 2.1, right?
K just making sure that I got a good jist of all the 'shortcommings' of the Droid you speak of. That's all.
Nope, I don't feel burned at all. It was my decision to buy a nice cheap Eris rather than spend more on a droid or wait to spend more on a Dragon derivative. Technology changes very quickly, that's just the way it is. If you constantly hesitate or wait until the next big thing, you'll never get to enjoy any piece of technology. You just have to buy when you're ready and accept the fact that whatever you just bought will be outdated in just a few months time, get used to it, it'll be your turn to get the new amazing phone again soon. But for now, enjoy what you have.
Does it support VOICE DIALING through Bluetooth Headset? If so, my HTC Eris is history!
Verizon is getting the Nexus One. It was announced yesterday at the Google Press Conference. It is listed on their site as spring of 2010. It was also announced that the Droid will be updated to 2.1 when the code gets open sourced in a few days. If that means we will get it in a few days or if that's when Motorola will get their hands on it to start optimizing it for the Droid's hardware, I'm not sure. I have a feeling its the latter.
With that said I have no "burned feeling" about buying my Droid knowing that the N1 is coming to Verizon. I got the Droid because it is the best phone on Verizon's network now. Technology is constantly advancing so I would drive myself nuts if I felt shafted every time a new phone came out. Based on the reviews of the N1 however, I feel as though the N1 does not beat the Droid hands down and the conclusion is still up in the air. I love my Droid as it has surpassed all of my expectations and keeps bringing that WOW factor when new stuff gets released on it like the demo of Google Earth that I saw yesterday which will be coming soon to the market. I have experience 2.1 already and I have to say it is amazing and am anxiously awaiting its optimized release for the Droid. Coming from the BB Storm1 I have to say having one update already and another in the works is a nice change of pace!
P.S.. I don't think hearing NEEEEEXXXXXXXUUUUUUUUUSSS would have the same effect as DRRRROOOOOIIIIIIIIDDD!
DROID DOES! End of story!
Nope...not dissapointed at all. Love my droid, and besides, processors are nearly identical. Since we get to store to the sd eventually then who cares if it has 512mb? lol. Nexus doesn't have an hw keyboard and that's a dealbreaker for me. I about lay money the camera is the same thing too, droid just needs a software update to fix that crazy iso issue....Sorry...lol

Apple may be the one feeling burned. So many of us, like me, would already have an iPhone, except that they shut us out of it by signing an exclusive deal with AT&T when we're committed to Verizon. I have 5 phones on my Verizon plan and can't just drop Verizon to switch to AT&T and the iPhone. I'm also not going to pay another $150 a month for an iPhone, whenI already have a good functioning phone. So I've been mad at Apple for quite awhile for doing that. And now that there is another choice for the rest of us, I'm going to buy that instead. I wouldn't get an iPhone today if it were $49. They can stick it.
I just saw this article and news video on the new phone-->Nexus
Well, i'm not too upset because the price of the phone is outrageous.
I'm one of those people who went from an old school phone to a smartphone. So I think baby stepping in this manner is what a lot of people did. And most of us did it for 50 bucks or less with the two year contract.
Two months ago, I bought my son a new Gateway Desktop. It was $50 less than the one I bought a year ago. Everything is identical to my older version except it came with a 1T hard drive. Do I feel burned about that? NO!
What's the BIG difference between the Droid and The Nexus One? The processer, BT dailing, and the screen.
While the Nexus One hosts a muscle car engine of a chipset, the Droid has a screen resolution the Nexus can't touch. BT dailing, oh well. I am disappointed it's not supported by the Droid, but I can live without it. The Nexus One hosts the same crappy soft keyboard as the Droid, out-of-the-box. And neither phone has pinch to zoom.
Motorola did announce a flash upgrade to Android 2.1 and Adobe announced flash 10.1 for the Droid. Adobe also has video showing the Droid running flash.
Nope, I don't feel burned, I feel excited! For once I think I made a fantastic choice going with the Droid. this phone has lovely possibilities!
We all know a phone is limited to it's network. (cough, cough AT&T). Even a morning news/talk show host showed his frustration this morning with his iPhone (Morning Joe: Joe Scarborough).
It's funny how AT&T runs their commercials they support data and voice at the same time when, in big cities, the iPhone simply doesn't.
I've rambled too long.
Bottom line, Droid Does!
For once, Big Red did not disappoint!
The Eris will work just fine for me until Verizon picks up the Nexus One.
http://www.phoneinferno.com
If that's your attitude then you will always feel burned, new phones come out all the time. At some point you have to make the jump...if you are constantly waiting for the next big phone, you'll never have it!
I am thrilled that Android operating system is growing like wild fire, The Moto DROID will have the new OS and IMHO better hardware.
If nothing changed we would all still be using MSDOS 5.0 and 8088 CPU at 800MHz, I remember when that was fast...
Keep it coming Google........
You know these new phones can be run on "any" network CDMA or GSM.....
Yes. I bought the Droid last week because Apple renewed their contract with AT and T. I already sent in my rebate because I figured this would be the best thing for now. DANGIT. So is it possible to return it and just go back to my old phone for a while?
Has anyone seen a review of Nexus One to see if you can voice dial from BT headset ?
hamesworth wrote: Yes. I bought the Droid last week because Apple renewed their contract with AT and T. I already sent in my rebate because I figured this would be the best thing for now. DANGIT. So is it possible to return it and just go back to my old phone for a while?
You have 30 days to test out a phone. So yes you could take it back. You might have to actually pick out another new different phone instead. You could always say you want to save your upgrade to this new Nexus instead.
My Droid Eris has its issues, but it should suffice for the time being. I bought it knowing full well the hardware limitations, because the software (i.e. HTC Sense) was more important to me than the hardware. The HTC Sense interface blew away the stock Android OS (questionable now with 2.1 on the Nexus One) and the phone itself was more aesthetically pleasing to the eye for me. Plus, I hate physical keyboards, especially ones as crappy as the one on the Droid.
I personally think the Nexus One should have been the ultimate Android phone released by Verizon, not the Droid. Its form factor makes it more direct competition to the iPhone. I'm most likely definitely sold on it when it comes out, but of course, I'm still in contract with the Eris, and don't plan on paying the ETF. However, I definitely made the right choice by getting the Eris with just a 1-year contract, because I knew there would be a much more powerful HTC Android phone coming to Verizon sometime early this year. Granted, I won't be able to get it until this coming November, but that's not too big of a deal. Besides, the Droid Eris should be getting a 2.1 upgrade soon as well, as promised by HTC. If it performs well on the Eris, I probably won't have a problem waiting until November to get the Nexus One.
