Why is Verizon LAST on the Galaxy S4?

I've been eligible for upgrade since October and have been waiting anxiously since then for the release of the Galaxy S4. To find out that Verizon is not selling it until a full month after everyone else makes me really angry. It also makes me want to change carriers. Why, Verizon? What reasonable explanation is there for being so far beyond everyone else? I could see a week, maybe two. But a MONTH?!

So you've waited this long an an extra month( which you don;t even know if it's a month because Verizon hasn't said that ) you are going to switch carriers? What is going to happen in the next month that makes this so urgent?

Before you jump to conclusions, calm down. A lot of things in this world are based of licenses and contracts. Maybe Samsung has a special license that gives the other carriers exclusivity for a limited time. Just like when the iPhone came out, only ATT had it.

Exactly. The earliest anyone will have it is April 24th via t-mobile and even then it's only through the website. To get it in person you have to wait until May1 st. At&t is on the 24th and Sprint is on the 27th. Could Verizon not have it until May 30th? Sure they could also have it on May 3rd. Nothing has been stated either way.

Like Brian said, it could be any time in May. The only thing I'm worried about is Verizon doing with they did with the Note 2 and branding veriozn o nthe home button.

Brian, I didn't say I WAS going to switch carriers. I said it made me *want* to. Big difference there. :smileyhappy: As I stated elsewhere, Verizon has the best coverage in my area and gives a good company discount. But it does still annoy the crap out of me that Verizon is so far behind all the others.

And to the others, yes, I realize there could be legitimate reasons for the delay, but that's why I'm asking the question. I'm hoping a rep will actually answer it. And while there has been no firm date stated, the rumors are consistently stating the end of May.

@joeguy0326, from what I saw on the Samsung site, it will not have Verizon branding on the home button. Only on the back of the phone. Of course, that doesn't mean it couldn't change, or not be a true representation. That's just what I saw.

This is a customer-to-customer forum. Verizon reps ocasionally pop in and respond, but it isn't guaranteed, they don't respond to every post, and when they do respond, it's often a week or more after a post has been posted.

Honestly why does that matter so much? Ashamed of being a Verizon customer? Honestly who is staring at you phone so intently to notice that anyway? My current phone which I have had for nearly 10 months has a huge Verizon logo on it. A lot bigger than the one on the Note II I have yet to have anyone say anything about it.

Verizon has the best network and service so it doesn't need to rush a release of a deve line the other carriers do. Personally I would rather they wait until they are sure there are not outstanding issues with the phone before they release it.

Also I just thought about. Verizon is planning to launch LTE over the AWS spectrum they got from the cable companies starting the end of this year. Perhaps Verizon is still testing the phone to see if it works on that. Who knows but it seems it wold make sense if you're going to use AWS to offer greater bandwidth you would need devices that can actually use those frequencies.

@Brian68 - You may be right. I simply dislike the fact that Verizon is mum on their reasoning. I think it's bad business, given this phone has had such a huge amount of hype for so long.

Since NO ONE has released this phone yet Verizon is not behind. They are only behind on announcing when they are going to release it. Now in 4 days that will be different.

Well having looked around in many, many, many different locations for this information I have come up empty handed. But with no release date having been mentioned does that mean it will be earlier or later than any other carrier? Nope, it means they are waiting to release their date so they KNOW when they will have their units and WILL be able to provide to the public.

That is something Verizon has been great with, availability of their product and the release dates to match. Other carriers are stating This date or That date - pre-sale dates more than likely, when will you ACTUALLY recieve your unit? Have you asked that question yet?

Call up the other carriers and ask them when is the expected date to recive the unit after going through the Pre-Sale on their site or in store...would be interesting to see what they say.

WHAT THE.... what kind of a logic is that? Now companies need to come out and say " we are launching a device on March 15th, and here are the reasons why it's not March 1st, and here are reasons why it's not February 15th and so on"? What kind of a dumb logic is that?

I think this is the most idiotic, illogical whining I've seen on this board, may be second to this one - "How come Verizon won't just come and tell us which phones they are NOT going to get, so that we don't have to wait and see and go to carrier that'll have it?".

Honestly it's not like the iPhone which took YEARS to get to Verizon, this is a few weeks.

The last time I checked, i was not getting a monthly payment for advertising for Verizon. You all have made valid points about why Verizon shouldnt have to announce when their releases will be, But the iPhone will prove that people will choose a carrier based on the device rather than the service. I dont plan on getting the GS4 so it doesnt matter to me. But on a business side of things, I would be at least throwing out a mid May, Late May release so people calm down. Staying silent makes customers frustrated when they are with the largest carrier with the best service and they don't even get a hint as to when they can expect it, at this rate, it could be July because they have not said anything about it.

I agree with you Verizon SHOULD be giving some information about it. I apparently expect a little more out of companies that I pay thousands of dollars to. Apparently it would be totally acceptable to some in this forum for Verizon to do whatever they want to their customers without informing them. Devices drive plans not service. Our society has turned into a technology driven society, Where the coolest phone gets praised. Sad but true. I personally feel its very alienating to Verizons customers who are waiting for the next big thing without any idea when they will be able to enjoy it along with their friends who constantly get dropped calls on AT&T.

Please enough with the big evil companies are taking advantage of customers. The other 3 carriers gave less than 2 weeks notice before they released this phone but if Verizon does that they are the bad guy and are taking advantage of you?
