end contract for main phone, what happens to the other phones on account?

Our main account holder contract date ends on 9/11/13. he does not want to continue with Verizon, so what will happen to the other 3 phones on the account that all have different end contact ends dates? will the next phone in line become the main account holder or the phone with the furthers contact end date?

When that line goes out of contract (reaches contract end) it can be dropped from the plan. If that person is the one financially responsible for the bill )the account is in his name), then he will remain responsible until he assigns that to someone else (does an Assumption of Liability to transfer the financial responsibility to another party).

Lines on a family plan shifted to "account level pricing" some time ago so there is no "primary" line any longer - you pay for your bucket of minutes, or minutes + texting, and each line is $9.99, then you data options per line. Each line has it's own contract.

Verizon doesn't know who uses each line on your plan - once a line is out of contract it can be dropped. The question is if the person financially responsible for the account will stay the same, or will that need to be shifted to someone else?

There is only one person financially responsible for all lines of service on an account. He will continue to be financially responsible unless/until someone else does an assumption of liability for the account and all the remaining lines of service on the account.

so ... I am out of contract on 4 lines in the "AC Select Fam SharePlan 1400". I wish to drop one line/ cancel it. Do I have to call to do this? Why can't it be done on line like other multiple account services? Why do I have to call? What number should one call? Where on the web site is the location that cancels one of the four lines?

You need to call customer service to cancel a line - you can't do it online. Call 800-922-0204, choose option 4 (Other) and SAY "Agent" when prompted.

Make the call to cancel just before your billing cycle ends - you will be billed for the complete billing cycle, so cancelling as close to the end as possible makes sense. If you are porting your numbers to another carrier (want to keep the same numbers) then don't cancel - have the other carrier port the numbers (again, as close to the end of your billing cycle as possible) and that will automatically cancel your Verizon service.
