What is Verizon doing to protect our privacy from an intrusive government?
Simple answer not a damn thing.
They are caving into demands of our politicians in DC by handing over our phone records to the NSA willingly, and without a fight.
Why is Verizon the only one that did this and was asked? Better yet, why did Verizon give it to them without a fight at all!!!! I pay good money for what is supposed to be the best service. Is handing over our privacy rights without any hesitation good service? I am cancelling my Verizon Wireless and Fios services once my contracts are up.
Why did the executives not challenge the order to hand over the documents as unconstitutional.. It would have made me sing your praises... Now you lost me forever.
Nothing. They are rolling over. Unlike our minutes!!!
I am not even under a contract right now with them. I just never bothered to change carriers yet, as my phone is still fine. No need to re-up. So, I am done. Dixie cup and string, anyone? This is an illegal action. We are Americans. A warrantless action taken against law abiding citizens. ILLEGAL!! How can this administration just keep this up, day in and day out? No let up for weeks. One scandal after another. When is it enough? Impeach! Verizon is as guilty.
This is unacceptable and a breach of contract! I will let my contracts expire and not renew with Verizon. Thanks for having our backs Verizon.
IMHO, Verizon is not trying to protect customer privacy at all in fact they are very instrumental in invading privacy. I had my computer examined forensically which shows that verizon cloud services are suspect
Verizon isn't doing anything at all to protect our privacy. They willingly hand our info over to advertisers, the government, anyone who asks for it. Far from protecting our privacy, they are complicit in invading it.
I just called cust service and they could not even discuss the government request for our phone records. The first statement in the privacy policy states that Verizon is committed to protecting my privacy....really?
That's because they make $$$ by sharing our info. I'm well aware of companies sharing info, but the NSA thing has it going way too far. Sharing individuals info with the feds is fine if they are under suspicion or investigation of wrongdoing or some other crime against our country. I get that. But blanket sharing of EVERYONE's information to the feds is treasonous at the very least.
I can't even get through to customer service. I am ending my contract early, screw the termination fee. Verizon, like many many other huge corporations in this country, is either in bed with this administration or terrified of the thugs therein. Either way, no longer a company with whom I want to do business. Perhaps if enough people pull their money away, Verizon will get a clue as to whom their loyalty should be.
Yes, when I was signing on today the first thing I saw was how Verizon is dedicated to protecting my privacy. Bull crap!!!
yeah I will be cancelling all 4 of my lines shortly and moving to prepaid on another carrier. No bills, and no privacy issues on prepaid.
Just spent an hour on the phone with Verizon....after 3 levels of supervisors I am pretty embarrassed that they are my carrier. When questioned if they have a Court Order with MY name on it to turn over records they cannot provide any answers....tried to terminate my 4 line contract after they have now breached that contract....hmmm, they can't. I am searching for a class action lawsuit now as they have breached their contract with me as of April 19, 2013 and have held my feet to a fire about a contract that they've breached.....CALLING ALL LAWYERS...who will take this suit??? Verizon's ass is in a wringer!
ALSO, everyone needs to send a FOIA request to Verizon requesting a copy of the court order that allegedly requests their records BY NAME. I'm a paralegal....and Verizon was always the LAST to provide court ordered records....they have NO record with YOUR name on it so they never should've turned it over...it should've been fought!!!
here is a link to a sample FOIA letter...

Cannot be done. Class actions are not allowed and Verizons Privacy Policy states they comply with lawful court orders etc.

Just posting this on every Forum I come across regarding this issue:
Yeah this is nothing new, its just like the government issuing a search warrant, VZW is obligated to comply because we all know what happens when they knock on your door with a warrant and you say go away...They bring down the door and come in anyway, this is the same concept
Vzw cust serice told me that this is all not true yet. The have. Violated what I send up for. But they said that they will. Notify customers by email or mail. If this turns out to be true Verizon is Trying to fight this
Verizon has no Legal Cause to. Release phone information to the government
Where do I sign up for a class action suit? I will let my contracts expire with Verizon and do business with local companies who understand American constitutional values.
Or
Verizon can step up and reveal exactly who in our government by name is asking for this information.
This is a pretty terrible situation but Verizon isn't the only company doing this, I checked into it and all the cellular companies and land lines along with search engines and even social networking sights are all getting the same treatment. Don't get mad at VZW as bad as this is, they have to answer to a subpoena or get shut down, lose lose for everybody except Uncle Sam
"Lawful orders" come from law makers with names. It's time we start learning who is driving this.
The Supreme Court has already ruled two years ago Cell Companies can not be sued under a class action suit
Just give us the names on the documents. Ultimately, one person is accountable. We deserve to know a name.
Check the records 8 years back, you will know who they are. And today, most Representatives say they support this program.

They've already shown what they do about an intrusive government. I haven't used my phone since I found out, it's been off. Cell phones really are unnecessary. My contract with them will be canceled. How are they going to Rectify that they broke the laws of the United States of America, ie: privacy act, 4th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, and broken their own contract and the trust of people who depended on them.
So you stopped using your phone but you're still on the internet? Didn't you read where all these major websites gave the government backdoor access to their data? Oh and since this site is run by the same company giving the evil government your data then the government surely has seen your anti-government post here. So no doubt they are already coming to take you away to the FEMA death camps. Maybe Canada will grant you asylum.
Using a landline now? Well they are captured also. Tin cans and a string may be in your futire
I still have a very bad taste in my mouth from them handing over my phone records. My contract is up soon, and I'm going phone free! I have internet access wherever I go, and all those who matter can reach me immediately online.
I'm not going to patronize a company that doesn't fight for human rights.
It is more a Privacy Issue, not Human Rights.
I believe people must do what they have to do. Going phone free may be great for you. But online privacy is just an issue. Just read up on if through Google or other sources
Good Luck
Thank you for posting this. I have just watched a 2 hour special on public television, which included information on corporate cooperation with the NSA on warrantless wiretapping and other invasions of privacy. I also watched A TED talk with Snowden. I learned Verizon is one of a group of telecommunications companies who have long cooperated with the government, depending on them for regulatory matters. They could be said to be an agent of the government. I have nothing to hide, I'm a disabled senior, but I am really angry. I have been a Verizon customer for years, and I rarely use my cell phone anyway, but I am going to cancel Veriizon and switch to throwaway phones. I have to do some research. My daughter and I don't use our phones to search the web, really just for texting each other and she texts friends, but the people who have the power to turn this around is the public. We have all the power because these are commercial entities, and as much as they depend on the government they depend more on our dollars. For the few minutes we use our phones every month, I pay about $1500 a year. I can take that away. Verizon is one of the worst offenders and I for one am not going to tolerate it, I am not a criminal or a terrorist. I am an American citizen law-abiding and patriotic.
Oh, and I have also cancelled Amazon browsing and purchases until they encrypt everything. I am going to cancel my land line with ATT and do some research on anonymous wen browsing. WHY? Who cares about my shopping habits or browsing habits? No one, but I will not be spied on in an illegal manner. I AM AN AMERICAN, WITH CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. One step,at a time. The NSA took the idiocy of American intelligence pre 911, which was their fault and could have been avoided with minimal intelligence, and are turning it in us as if we and not they were to blame. it is a massive psychological defense mechanism, called denial and projection, BUT MAINLY THEY ARE DOING IT BECAUSE WE LET THEM.
TThere are no lawful orders. These are warrant less wiretaps and searches, all under the auspices of the Patriot Act. It is illegal and unconstitutional and if enough people gripe about it and take their dollars back, it will stop.
