Is there a way to tell if the Droid is charging?
The LED for notification is not the charging LED.
The charging LED is located next to the charging plug, it's a little white light

Moto Droid: The battery icon in the notification bar will have a little lightning bolt in it, or if you turn it off and then turn it back on, if it's charging the lock screen will say "Charging (xx%)". Not sure about the Eris, but I would assume the icon on the notification bar is similar.
On the battery symbol, it should show a thunder/lighting little picture on it. The battery should also show it from going to red, to yellow, and then to green.
Don't see any lightening bolt or color change. Brand new Droid - using Verizon-supplied charger and/or dock. Curious thing is I set the phone never to turn off when on external power and sure enough, it stays on (turns off after one minute on battery)?
Does it actually power off? Or just go dark? Just because it goes dark doesn't mean it's off ...

If you put it in the charger and it's not responding, or charging, or giving you any indication that it is charging (Whether it saying that it's actually charging via sleep to awake mode, or looking at battery icon), then I'd say do a factory reset or return it.
On my phone it shows a light that it is charging on the outside of the phone. Green= all charged up, Orange= almost all charged, Red=Battery needs charging. This is what the light looks like on my phone:
Charging Picture
OK - I did a hard reset and now I see the little lghtening bolt and it's animated, but:
I still don't see the charging light (I know the light works because it flashes when I get an email)
Is it possible tha6t when the battery gets near 100% the lightening bolt vanishes?
Is the behavior of the charging light dependent on software version?
I don't see the light when charging either except for red when its dead or dying. I do see a white light coming out of the charging port when charging. When it is charged it goes off.
That did it - Thanks. Curiously, no one in the Verizon store had a clue so they exchanged my phone.
I bought a Motorola Droid on Tuesday and when i finally activated it, the bluetooth and WiFi were non functional. I went back on wednesday to see if it was able to be corrected and they exchanged the Droid for a new one. The WiFi and Bluetooth are now opperational, but when i got home from work tonight, i tried to charge it, but neither the LED on the charging port nor the animation on screen are present. However, when i power off the phone with the charger connected, the light on the charging port comes on, but after a period of time where the battery charge status would or should have increased by 10-20%, there is no change in battery status. I attempted a factory reset and the results are the same. I must apologize if this comes as an unintelligent question, but is there another customer proceedure I can carry out myself to correct it or should I simply go back to the store again and return it? I know I am beginning to become frustrated with it, so i can only imagine how the staff of the store must feel seeing me on a seemingly daily basis over the past couple of days. Its a remarkable phone and is impressive technology, but it seems some of its bugs have not been completely worked out as of yet. In closing if any of you could give me some helpful recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated.
