I have had roadside ever since I joined Verizon. First few times I used it it was great. Then late last year, my battery died and needed a boost. I live 1/2 mile from a AAA-service wrecker service shop, and there are five towing companies within a 20 mile radius of my house. I called roadside assistance and was told they found a tow company that would be to my house in about 45 minutes. OK, a little long, but I'll wait. Come to find out, the tow company was coming from more than 75 miles away. So in order to get to me in about 45 minutes, the tow truck driver would have to drive more than 100 miles an hour. So i cancelled the call and called my own wrecker, which was at my house in 5 minutes and charged me $50. Then I could never get anyone from the roadside assistance company to ever call me back about a reimbursement.
Then a couple of weeks ago, my brother (a second line on my plan) locked his keys in his car. He called the roadside assistance and the woman who answered had trouble finding a lock company to come help him. She eventually called him back after about 30 minutes and said she finally found one and that it would be approximately 140 minutes (nearly 2 and a half hours) before they could respond to help him. He just cancelled the call and eventually got into his car.
I've had to wait more than an hour and a half for service when I call the roadside assistance. I have now cancelled the service as I can pay the same amount for AAA a year that I am paying for the roadside assistance for 3 lines through VZW.
By the way the lock service's office is less than 10 miles from where my brother was locked out.
