Family Share Plan

I currently have the Family Share Plan 700 on a month to month basis as my contract has expired. However, I now want to upgrade one of my phones. Will I be able to do this and continue using the Family Share Plan or do I need to move up to the new Share Everything plan? The reason I ask is because it will be significantly more expensive to do this. We have five phones on the plan, but two of them are essentially emergency phones and are not used regularly.

You do not have to migrate to the Share Everything plan if you upgrade at a discounted price for a phone. You would, however, lose your unlimited data if you currently have it on the line you are upgrading.

It is better to have this done at a Verizon store rather than a 3rd party retailer as I don't believe they have the capability to keep you on your current plan. You can contact Verizon after upgrading at a 3rd party retailer and ask to switch back to your old plan, but I have seen people on these forums which have reported problems with this method.

OK, so upgrade a basic phone to a smart phone and then I would have to pay for one of the sharable data plans offered on the Share Everything pricing?

Only if you would like.

If you currently have a basic phone on a Verizon line of service and would like to upgrade to a smartphone, you should be able to do so without migrating your account to Share Everything if you don't want to. You would have to choose a tiered data package which start at $30/month for 2 GB. This data will not be shared with any other devices. To have shared data, you would have to migrate to a Share Everything plan and would make ALL of your devices migrate, too.
