Agreed to a 2 year contract - now Verizon wants to increase my rates

I agreed to a 2 year Verizon wireless contract in May 2013 that included a corporate discount from my former employer. Receiving the discount, even after leaving that my former company, was a deciding factor in continuing my wireless contract with Verizon. Now that I have the 2 year contract with a lower rate and unlimited data, Verizon wants to take those benefits away because I can't validate my employment.

If I didn’t continue to receive the discount I never would have signed a 2 year contract. I was baited with a discount and now that I have signed the contract, Verizon switched the terms. I don't think Verizon should be able to change the terms of the contract in the middle of a 2 year agreement to benefit them and charge me more. I am contractually held the terms of the 2 year agreement, Verizon should be as well.

I explained this to the Employment Validation department manager but he was did care that I was being defrauded. All he could do was ask me to validate my employment or not. Customer support was no help either, they gave me the run-around and told me to call the

Employment Validation department.

If this issue does not get resolved I will never sign a contract with VW again.

As always, it is your choice to either sign a contract or not.

Possibly you should have asked Verizon to remove the discount prior to signing your contract instead of having them continue to provide you a discount which you were not eligible. Maybe you should have let Verizon know you were no longer eligible for your employee discount when you no longer worked for that employer and this would not have happened.:smileyhappy:

I spoke with the customer service rep before signing up for a the plan. They were the ones that informed me I was still eligible for the plan without the need to validate my employment. I would never have signed up for the plan if I didn't get the discount. Now, once they have me hooked, they want to take the discount away. It's called fraud and Verizon Wireless doesn't care that I am disgruntled.

All I can say is to don't sign up for a service where you get a discount UNLESS you know the details of the discount, especially if the discount is needed for you to agree to service. From the customer agreement...

"Am I Eligible for Special Discounts?

If you're a Postpay customer, you may be eligible for a discount if you are and remain affiliated with an organization that has an agreement with us. Unless your discount is through a government employee discount program, we may share certain information about your Service (including your name, your wireless telephone number and your total monthly charges) with your organization from time to time to make sure you're still eligible. We may adjust or remove your discount according to your organization's agreement with us, and remove your discount if your eligibility ends or your contract term expires. In any case, this won't be considered to have a material adverse effect on you."

It actually isn't fraud for them to take away a discount you do not qualify for. Your contract doesn't guarantee continuation of that discount should you end your employment which made you eligible. Continuing to take advantage of a discount you are not eligible would be fraudulent. Check with customer service to see if your current employer offers a discount, and if they do, great! Take advantage of that. But being angry with Verizon for removing your previous discount is unproductive and unjustified.

Also, the employer discount is NOT part of your contract.

It is an ancillary feature.

Verizon is not "increasing their rates" - the plan charges remain the same as they were when you signed up, and they will for the life of the contract. Some customers receive a discount due to their employment - it's a benefit of the company you work for - not Verizon benefit. If you no longer work for that company, you no longer benefit from the discount offered by that company. Why is that so difficult for people to understand? Or maybe it's just difficult to accept, and so it's twisted around to put it all on Verizon.

You've continued receiving a discount that you're ineligible for. You should be happy that the representative didn't remove your discount immediately when you told them that you were no longer employed by whatever company made you initially eligible for that discount. It's amusing to me that you seem to think that the issue is fraud on Verizon's part, when nothing in your contract with them guarantees you to any discount, or any specific price point. In fact, in all Verizon contracts, and almost every contract with a company who provides an ongoing service (satellite tv, internet, cable, wireless phone, landline phone, etc.), the contracts explicitly state that pricing is always subject to change without prior notice. Go ahead and review your "Documents and Receipts" to find the most recent agreement for your service, and I'm sure you'll find that Verizon never agreed to guarantee your discount or service pricing for the term of that contract.

tl;dr: You aren't "entitled to" or "guaranteed" any discount or pricing. Get over it.
