Since Verizon isn't grandfathering in Unlimited Data Plans, would they waive ETFs for them?

Still have a few months left on my unlimited data contract, but I'd be willing to give it up if Verizon waives my early termination fee so I could switch carriers. Otherwise I think I'd be better off just buying a new phone at full price. Has anyone had luck getting their ETFs waived?

No, there is no reason Verizon would do that. You need to complete your contract and finish paying for the phone you bought or pay the ETF. It has nothing to do with your data plan. As long as you don't buy a new subsidized phone, you can keep your unlimited data plan, at least for now.

What basis would you have to get a ETF waived? Keep your current phone, buy a used one or buy a new one and pay full price and you can keep your unlimited data for now. A year from now who knows. What carrier are you going to go to that will give you unlimited data?

Exactly! ETF's are for purchasing a phone at a promo price. You wouldn't have a contract at all if you didn't get a smartphone for little to no cost... Did you actually believe that someone was giving away phones for nothing? Or at a discounted rate (up to 75% off it's retail price), just because they like you?? Many smartphones can run up to $700 or more, and you only have to pay the $100 - $200 for a real nice one (free for most other models). Do you somehow believe that this was that actual cost for the high tech toy you walked out of the store with? Do you think Verizon or any other carrier actually makes money from phones? Heck no! They sell service. And with that phone comes the 2 year commitment. This is how they can recuperate the cost for giving that phone to you that you get to keep after that time is up. The service that verizon wireless provides is how they are able to keep up and improve their network for the phone you have in your hand to work. I feel like this should be common sense. But apparently that isn't very common these days. If you don't want to be charged an early termination fee, then you can provide the phone for the service or buy it from someone else, or buy one at the full price... No contract; therefore no ETF... Problem solved.

Let's slow down here and take a deep breath. After all, we don't want to lose you anytime soon. But, we do have options available.

Now, your unlimited data package will only cease to exist if you upgrade to a new device at discounted pricing (thus signing a new two year agreement). Given this information about you entering a new contract, your early termination fee will not be waived. However, let's go back to those options I mentioned. Too bad VZW doesnt allow a reasonable price on the monthly service if you did buy your own phone. They should be doing that instead of charging the same service rate.
