There are times when I would see a 2 or 3 day gap where there are no text messages logged. They are not iphones. I know my kids did not fall off the face of the earth, they text daily.
Is this around the billing cycle date?

No, it stopped on 8/30 and pickup on 9/3
Maybe there was a delay in the reporting from the tower to the corporate server. Otherwise I don't have any ideas why it happened.

Do your children have iPhones? If so, it is possible they may be using iMessages. iMessages are sent over a data connection and are not recorded online via My Verizon.
