Device upgrade cause loss of unlimited data option?

Will upgrading to a new device cause me to lose my unlimited data plan? I was told awhile back that it would, but my son (who uses the unlimited data option) was recently told in a VzW store that an upgrade would not force him to select a data plan. Which is true?

Upgraded my wife's phone from Android to iPhone, and was required to change "unlimited" to 2GB max. :smileysad: Note sure whether same applies if you stay with same OS...

Thanks for the feedback. You are confirming what I was initially told. Good point about the OS.

It has nothing to do with the OS. If you have unlimited data and upgrade your phone by purchasing a subsidized phone and signing a new two-year contract, you will be switched to a 2GB data plan. If you want to keep your unlimited data (at least for now), you must pay full retail price for your phone or buy one from somewhere like ebay or swappa (anywhere that doesn't require you to sign a new two-year contract).
