The source code has not even been released yet, how would anybody know the answer to that?

The source code might not be released to the public yet, but I'm sure Google did release it to manufacturers/carriers.

No, that's not how AOSP works. The OEMs have exactly the same access to the source code that the public does, no sooner, no later. That is the whole concept behind open source, if the code was handed to anybody before anybody else, it would no longer fit the open source criteria.

It won't; according to the Motorola Android support page:

DROID 4

This device will remain on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)

There was Talk a Few months ago of a new Flip that might come out the Droid 5 I don't know if it is still in the Talks or not but if it does come out, It will have the most recent OS on it which more in likely will be KitKat..

I don't know when it'll happen. I do know this. That phone has more than the required processor (dual core) and more than the required ram (1 gb).

So if it's not updated to 4.4. It's because motorola and/or vzw doesn't want to update it.

Yeah, it doesn't work that way.

It is dependent on the partition size, if the partition is too small, you will never get it.

4.1 partition is much smaller than 4.4

The Motorola Droid 4 has all the necessary specs to receive KitKat. It has 8 GB built in storage (i'd be surprised if the OP has used up all 8 GB), a dual core processor 1200 Mhz, system memory 1024 MB of RAM and 16384 MB ROM.

If the Motorola Droid 4 doesn't get KitKat along with all the other phones that meet the system requirements. It's because the OEM and/or Verizon doesn't want those phones to get it.

As noted above, this phone will remain on Jelly Bean, according to Motorola's web site.

It seems to happen to a fair piece of phones after being on or off the market my Maxx won't get update that is why after the first of the year I'm moving to the Moto X or and HTC device..
