Adjusting the audio for emergency alerts

I have found the "Emergency message settings" in the "Messaging" app. I can select the "Emergency alerts" that I want to receive and have de-selected the "Alert reminder" and have selected "Vibrate".

How do I lower the volume (or turn it off) the audio? We have had some severe rain in the area today and during a meeting the alert went off and was extremely loud and disruptive. I am not able to find any means to silence it.

I want the emergency messages and I want to be notified by having the phone vibrate in my pocket. I do NOT want to have that obnoxious audio siren rattle everyone surrounding me.

Any suggestions?

Not sure if this is the issue or not, but are you sure it is the Emergency Alert app sending you those notifications, and not perhaps a weather app (The Weather Channel, Weather Bug etc).

The reason I ask is my wife just got the droid razr M. one of the first things she did was download at least 2, maybe three weather apps. sure enough that evening we had a pretty bad storm and at least weather channel and weather bug were BOTH sending alerts. The thing was going nuts actually with pings and dongs and vibrations etc.

Anyway - ot only did I disable the audio alert/notification in the emergency alert app, but also had to go into each of those apps and adjust the settings as well. that mght be the issue.

With the weather conditions changing rapidly, it's best to stay in the know at all times. That's exactly what we want to for our customers, to stay in the know. While this great feature is super helpful, it doesn't have a volume control. To avoid the unwanted audio alert during a certain time, it's best to turn off the feature temporarily when not wanted.
