Verizon makes money from scammers?

Kind of sad that Verizon can't block the calls from 800-888-9595 (or any calls with that as the caller id) - this is the scam robocall that claims that Verizon has awarded you a prize of $400 or more.

Verizon is happy to charge your minutes for these unwanted and illegal calls. Kind of makes you wonder if Verizon is getting a cut of the scam profits on the side beyond the charges to their customers.

Verizon can't block any 800 number (no idea why). They aren't targeting these scammers with being unable to block, the scammers are targeting VzW's limitations.

Verizon charges for all minutes accrued on your phone, they don't (and shouln't) distinguish between different people calling you beyond your plan-allowed buckets (mobile to mobile, nights and weekends, etc). It would set a dangerous precedent for them to give "preferential" (read: non-minute-impacting) treatment to scammer calls.

Jax, Verizon is the "Phone Company" they have the technology to block "any number" it so desires.

They are the Old Bell System.

Verizon allows blocking either via the five free blocks or through the 20 number block service at $4.99 per line per month.

Just a mind process for you to ponder, the computers of incoming and outgoing calls they maintain will give them the needed information as to who the scammers are. Don't ever believe Verizon or any carrier does not know who uses their system.

Verizon has successfully sued two telephone marketers or scammers in court. Although the amount they won they gave to charity Verizon still made millions off the scammers calling their customer base and from selling blocking services. Verizon is making money from both directions. Additionally people that use 800,888,877,900 Numbers are paying for that toll free service. Verizon can find out the name and address and anything else necessary to terminate them for bothering the verizon customers.

And it makes no difference what phone company sold the service, Verizon can and should go after the scum phone harassers.

No, what I mean is for whatever reason VzW set their system up without allowing it to block 800 numbers. I do not know why they did this.

The scammers know this so they spoof their caller ID to show 800 numbers.

I'm not sure why you believe the scammers are actually calling from a legit 1 800 service... it's much cheaper and easier for them to simply spoof the caller ID.

Personally I don't care if the numbers are spoofed or not. Verizon does know of these scum scammers calling their customers. Even if a few hundred people complained they should investigate and set up blocks after verification of the actual owner of line phoning the verizon customers. Its also done via autodialing or that with a number sequence attack.

Both illegal under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

But verizon will not budge until enough customers complain or the government steps in. Verizon has a way to report text message scams and spams, they have the ability to have annoyance calls reported as well. In the old phone days it was dialing #750 and they charged you for the annoyance call report. Yeah they charged you. When the retrieved the information of the caller annoying you tgey would call you to go and make a police report and how the police can get the information from Verizon Security.

The bottom line is these annoyance calls can be stopped or blocked but they choose not to. It is a revenue generator.

The government should fine verizon a gazillion dollars for each abusive call until they either block it from their customers or they see its no longer going to be profitable not to stop the scum telemarketer.
