real or fake text message from Verizon?

I just received a text message from "900070001437" that reads as follows:

FREE VZW Msg: To help u avoid ovgs during recovery efforts, a 1-time allowance of 1000 mins was added to ur line, valid for 60 days. Call *611 w/?s

Anyone know whether this is a real message from Verizon Wireless, or is it just spam?

I have a question which will make this a 2 part answer but with the same result.

The Message itself did it say to call 611 w/?s or Call 611 with questions and you abbreviated it?

Either way I would call 611 as it is the Customer Service number and see if it is in fact valid. That is a regular Verizon number and the very worst that they can say is it is not their message. I would tend to think it is legit as it is not asking you to sign into a website or call a different number or asking for account info at all.

It is worded like a legitimate post. The *611 number is the customer service number. Is there recovery efforts occurring in your area?

The message itself said "Call *611 w/?s." I guess it was in part all the abbreviations that was making me think it looked spammy. I am somewhat near to the bad storm that's going across the country, but haven't been affected personally. Thanks for the info - glad to know 611 at least is a legit number! I should have known that. :smileyhappy:
