Where is the big announcement for Eris like the Droid got?

I am so skeptical about this update coming out. All over the forums you saw announcements from VZW about the DROID by Motorola getting 2.1. Great news! Verizon is pleased to announce the 2.1 for the DROID.

Okay, so in order to find out the Eris is getting the update you actually have to dig around in the VZW support page to find the announcement.

VZW reps don't seem to have any information other than what we have already seen ourselves. I have only seen two people say they have gotten the update. So, does this mean its just another rumor or waiting game?

I have been patiently waiting for this update since the sales person told me to get the Eris over the Droid because I would be receiving an update within 30 days to the same version as the Droid.

I am starting to get a little impatient now after almost 6 mos of waiting. I will not brick my phone with a leaked version but its very tempting.

I sure hope it comes out soon. I'm losing confidence in VZW every day.

If you remember the big announcement for the Droid then they pulled it due to last minute bugs. I think they wanted to avoid the whole thing again.

It's trickling out and on the way...between now and a week or two everyone should be satisfied. HAHAHA..my bad..we'll start whining where is 2.2 once the 2.1 update is done.

Its coming, they are just not pleased to announce it.

And do not install the leak, because it *seems* you will not get the OTA until they post the file on PCD.

Chances are good that the file will be available online long before the OTA push is completed. The last couple for the Moto Droid were available within a few hours of the first wave, while people waited up to a week for the "push" to get to their phone.

don't you know, the eris is the ugly step-child of Verizon's android family, they would rather pretend it doesn't exist.

These forums are really late when it comes to announcements. The 2.1 Droid update was released for like 2-3 weeks before they were even announced on these message boards.

It's not that they aren't coming out, it's just that with a website who's forums is held by a third part doesn't really get up-to-par information.

Actually, yes. I am going to complain. Because we have been complaining for months about not getting the update and all of the Eris owners that knew the update was supposed to be released were getting more and more impatient.

Moto Droid owners already had 2.0 so it wasn't such a big deal to them. All this time all we ever keep seeing ANY announcements or "how to's" about are the Moto Droid or the Incredible.

I love my Eris and am glad they are finally updating it but it would be nice if VZW would at least give a nod this way to show us they still remember us Eris owners who have been waiting for months on an update that 95% of sales people told us would be out in January, then by end of Q1.

Thats all I'm saying. I'm happy we're getting the update. Just want a little acknowledgement that we actually exist.

The reason is quite simple. 2.1 features that make it 2.1 are so broken or not implemented in this release that to call it 2.1 would be a gross error. Voice to text is not supported beyond what we already had. We don't have a gallery for pinch to zoom to work within even though the notes say we do. We don't have pinch to zoom in Googlemaps even though the release notes say we do. We don't have live wallpapers that we have seen work on v3 of the leaked rom on youtube. All in all we got access to other 2.1 apps, leap, and the new weather widget. That's it.

Yep, from what I've read, I think I'll leave my 2 Eris phones running the 2.1v3 leak and the seperately installed gallery that does allow pinch zooming. Although maps still doesn't do it. Oh well. It seems like I've got it as good if not better than those with the "official update".
