How can Verizon charge twice as much for less service?

I have 4 phones, two of which have data plans. Unlimited Text and 1400 minutes, of which only about 700 are used. My bill used to be about $120 a month. Ever since I got a new phone, I actually am getting LESS from Verizon. I went from Unlimited data (no longer offered) to 2GB data on one of my phones. Nothing else has changed. My bill is now in excess of $270 a month. That was the "solution" offered by the employee at the Verizon store. $650 is a lot of money to get out of my contract with Verizon, but that is a pittance compared to what I'll be gouged for over the next two years. Whatever happened to "you get what you pay for"?

What phones do you have, and what did you update to? Unlimited data on a feature-phone (old plan no longer offered) and data on a Smartphone are 2 completely different animals.

I had a Motorola Droid X2. Upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3. Went from unlimited data to 2GB. Did not add a new line, did not add new services. Now that there are limits on my data, I would think my bill would be lower. It has doubled. Trying to determine the reason for this, outside of Verizon's greed.

Smartphones are $40

Feature phones are $30

The 2 GB Data package is $60

This still only ads up to $190 + taxes....do you have overage charges perhaps?

I do have 1GB overage, but it was explained to me by the Verizon rep in store that it would be cheaper for me to pay for the 2GB + 1GB overage than it would be if I paid for the 4GB plan. I don't know if this ended up being the case, but it is certainly not explained very well, and the multiple unexplained fees and charges Verizon adds to the bill don't help at all. At the end of the day, calling Verizon's toll free number to get this explained to me had the customer service rep at a loss as to why I am being so excessively overcharged. If Verizon's own employees don't understand why I'm being charged so much, what hope do I have? I have pretty much decided to cancel my account and take the $650 early termination hit. It's terrible, but for what I'm being overcharged for the next two years, it's nothing.
