Using tablet as primary device

I'm wondering about the possibility of using a tablet with LTE as my primary device with a smartphone as a backup. I recently dropped my smartphone and broke the screen and, unfortunately, I have about 8 months before I can upgrade the device at a subsidized price. My questions are:

1) I know that customers can switch between multiple phones with the same phone number using the method outlined here: http://support.verizonwireless.com/myverizon/HowToAddActivateDevice.html. Is it possible to switch between a smartphone and tablet? The Activate/Switch device support page doesn't mention this option.Will the 4G SIM in my smartphone (Galaxy Nexus: i515) even fit in the SIM slot in a tablet?

2) If it's possible, will I lose my grandfathered-in unlimited data plan? If so, that would be a deal breaker.

ScottAACarter, first, I regret to hear about your phone. I know how important it is to have a working phone. Second, we do not offer unlimited data on tablets, and you also would not be able to make calls on a tablet, so you would need to choose a new data plan for your tablet. Some tablets do use the same micro SIM card as the Nexus, but you would need to first choose a new plan. If you're looking for a replacement phone, we do offer some certified pre-owned phones or you can also check online sources for devices that don't require a contract. As long as it is still a smartphone, you would still be able to keep your unlimited data.
